Miss Universe Mexico Fatima Bosch Cries After Conflict at Sash Ceremony with MGI President

A tense moment unfolded during the sash ceremony for Miss Universe Mexico 2025 contestant Fatima Bosch, who left the event in tears after a heated exchange with Nawat Itsaragrisil, the president of Miss Grand International (MGI). The incident occurred on Tuesday when Itsaragrisil confronted several contestants for refusing to take promotional photos with a sponsor. He then specifically called out Bosch, accusing her of not sharing enough posts about Thailand and suggesting that her national director had instructed her not to.

Bosch attempted to explain her position, but Itsaragrisil interrupted her, ordering her to sit down and calling security. The situation escalated quickly, causing many contestants to feel uncomfortable. Some of them stood up and walked out of the room. “If anyone wants to continue the contest, sit down,” Itsaragrisil said during the confrontation.

Bosch exited the room in tears and was comforted by Miss Iraq. Later, she spoke to reporters, claiming that Itsaragrisil had made offensive remarks and ordered her to remain silent without providing any explanation. She emphasized that she loves Thailand and denied having any personal conflict with the organizers. “The world needs to see this because we are empowered women, and this is a platform for our voice. And no one can shut our voice,” she stated.

Reigning Miss Universe Victoria Theilvig of Denmark joined the walkout alongside several other contestants, expressing her disapproval of Itsaragrisil’s disrespectful treatment of Miss Mexico. On her Instagram Story, Theilvig shared her support for Bosch, writing: “Standing up for yourself is not always easy, but it is one of the most important acts of self-respect and strength you can show. It means knowing your worth, setting boundaries, and not allowing anyone or anything to undermine your voice or your value.”

In response to the incident, the Miss Universe Organization (MUO) stated that they had worked with the production team to defuse the situation. They later released a statement on Instagram, saying: “A high-level delegation, led by CEO Mario Bucaro, is traveling to Thailand to strengthen collaboration with the host country, MGI, and relevant authorities. This mission aims to coordinate efforts, ensure a secure and professional environment for all delegates, and reaffirm MUO’s commitment to transparency, respect, and unity.”

Despite the tension, Miss Mexico rejoined the other contestants for a cruise party and was warmly welcomed following the incident. The sash ceremony for the Miss Universe 2025 competition took place later that night in Thailand.
