BNP Marks ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ with Nationwide Events
On November 7, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will observe what it calls ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day.’ This day commemorates the ‘civil-military uprising’ of 1975, which marked a significant turning point in the country’s political history. The event is being celebrated with due respect and recognition.
In 1975, during a period of political unrest, soldiers and civilians joined forces to free then Chief of Army Staff Ziaur Rahman from captivity at Dhaka Cantonment. This act paved the way for him to assume power, shaping the course of Bangladesh’s political landscape.
To mark this occasion, BNP has announced a 10-day program starting on November 2. The initiative aims to highlight the true historical significance of the day through various activities and events.
A Range of Activities Across the Country
BNP’s associate bodies and all its units across the country will organize a wide range of programs. These include discussions, cultural events, photo exhibitions, and the distribution of educational materials among orphan students. Additionally, documentaries will be released through electronic and print media, as well as on online platforms such as Facebook and YouTube.
Newspapers across the country will also publish supplements to honor the day. As part of the celebrations, the party flag will be hoisted atop all BNP offices nationwide on Friday morning. Leaders and activists, led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, will place wreaths and offer fateha at the grave of the party’s founder and former President Ziaur Rahman at 10 am.
Rallies and Discussions
The BNP’s Dhaka South and North city units will hold a rally starting from the party’s Nayapaltan central office at 3:00 pm. All district and upazila units of the party will also organize rallies on the same day.
On November 12, the party will host a discussion at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre. This event is expected to bring together various stakeholders to discuss important national issues.
Messages from BNP Leaders
Meanwhile, BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir have issued separate messages to greet the people of the country on this occasion.
In his message, Tarique urged all nationalist forces to unite in the spirit of November 7 to build a strong democracy in the country. He emphasized that protecting national independence and sovereignty is extremely urgent at this moment.
Fakhrul, in his message, called for unity among all citizens to establish democracy and an elected government through the next national election. He stressed that there is no alternative to holding a free and fair election in the country.
