Strengthening Bilateral Defence Relations Between Kenya and Rwanda
General Charles Kahariri, the Chief of Defence Forces of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), is currently on a four-day working visit to Rwanda. The purpose of this trip, which spans from November 4 to 7, 2025, is to enhance and deepen the existing defence cooperation between Kenya and Rwanda. This initiative underscores the commitment of both nations to foster stronger ties in regional security, training, and peace support operations.
During his arrival in Kigali, General Kahariri and his delegation were welcomed by the Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), General Mubarak Muganga. The visit included a meeting with the Minister of Defence of Rwanda, Juvenal Marizamunda, followed by bilateral discussions with senior defence officials. These talks focused on reviewing the “excellent defence cooperation” that has been established between the two countries and identifying new opportunities for collaboration.

As part of his visit, General Kahariri laid a wreath at the Kigali Genocide Memorial, paying respects to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. He also visited the Campaign Against Genocide Museum, demonstrating Kenya’s solidarity with Rwanda in honoring the memory of those who lost their lives.
