Collaboration Between Academia and Industry to Advance E-Sports Development
Academia and industry are joining forces to bring the vision of the Lee Jae-myung administration to life by establishing an e-sports promotion foundation and an e-sports museum. This initiative aims to elevate the status of e-sports as a significant cultural and economic force in South Korea.
The AI Smart Sports Future Forum of Korea, co-represented by Lee Jae-sung and Jeon Steel, has announced plans to host a policy seminar on the 15th at BEXCO in Busan, coinciding with the international game exhibition “G-Star 2025.” The event will focus on the theme of “Artificial Intelligence Era, Standardization of e-sports education, and Teacher Training Plan.”
Integrating AI into Public Education
During the seminar, the forum will explore how smart physical education and e-sports education can be integrated into the public education system using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The discussion will also cover policy alternatives aimed at fostering related industrial ecosystems.
Jeon Je-cheol, one of the co-representatives of the forum, highlighted the importance of AI-driven smart physical education. He stated, “Smart physical education using AI technology will be a key factor in not only improving students’ health but also narrowing the digital gap and fostering creative talent. We will concentrate our academic efforts to successfully realize the president’s national affairs in the field of education.”
Strategic Vision for Busan
Lee Jae-sung, co-chair of the forum and former chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea’s Busan Metropolitan Government, emphasized the strategic importance of smart sports. He said, “Smart sports, which combines AI industry and education, is the core foundation for Busan to leap to the world’s No. 1 maritime, shipbuilding, and defense AI city. The core of realizing the three AI powerhouses is to cultivate human resources, and this G-Star seminar will be a practical starting point for the implementation of the government’s national affairs.”
Future Plans and Initiatives
Starting with this seminar, the AI Smart Sports Future Forum of Korea plans to standardize AI smart sports education, establish an e-sports promotion foundation, and research policies to build museums. The forum will also propose legislation and establish a cooperation system between the government and local governments.

Co-CEO Lee Jae-sung recently officially announced his candidacy for Busan mayor. He continued his steps for regional development, stating, “We will grow Busan into the southern gateway to the AI and e-sports industries.”
