KTB Named Africa’s Top Destination, Masai Mara Leads Safari Excellence

Kenya Tourism Board Recognized as Africa’s Best

The Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) has been honored as the best tourism board in Africa at the Africa Tourism Awards 2025, also known as The Balearica Awards, held in London. This prestigious recognition places Kenya at the forefront of destination marketing and promotion on the continent.

KTB outperformed notable competitors such as the Egypt Tourism Authority, Rwanda Development Board, South African Tourism, Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, and Instituto do Turismo de Cabo Verde. This achievement reinforces Kenya’s reputation as a benchmark for tourism excellence in Africa.

Another significant win was the Masai Mara National Reserve, which was named the best safari destination. This accolade further solidifies Kenya’s leadership in African tourism. The reserve faced stiff competition from iconic parks like Chobe, Kruger, Serengeti, South Luangwa, and Volcanoes National Parks.

The recognition highlights the Masai Mara’s unmatched wildlife experiences, particularly the celebrated annual wildebeest migration and its pioneering community-focused conservation efforts.

Kenya’s success extends beyond these awards. KTB received commendations in several other categories, including:

  • Best Tourism Video for the acclaimed campaign “This is the Real Deal”
  • Best Country Destination
  • Best City Destination for Nairobi
  • Best International Airport for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport

These recognitions collectively demonstrate Kenya’s diverse tourism appeal and infrastructure excellence.

In a statement, Allan Njoroge, acting CEO of KTB, said the accolades are a strong testament to Kenya’s extraordinary natural heritage and commitment to sustainable tourism growth.

“The Masai Mara remains our crown jewel and one of the world’s premier safari destinations. Our recognition as best tourism board reflects KTB’s innovative marketing strategies, strategic partnerships, and concerted efforts to grow visitor arrivals, boost revenue, and create millions of jobs for Kenyans,” Njoroge said.

These awards were announced during the sidelines of the 2025 World Travel Market (WTM) in London, where KTB showcased Kenya as a top destination. The board led a dynamic Kenyan delegation to the global tourism showcase, leveraging the platform to forge new partnerships, promote Kenya’s newest tourism products, and drive international arrivals.

Its presence at this year’s WTM amplified Kenya’s diverse offerings, including adventure, cultural festivals, coastal experiences, and eco-tourism, ensuring Kenya remains top of mind for travelers worldwide.

A Growing Profile in Global Tourism

Kenya continues to raise its profile as Africa’s premier tourism destination, combining world-class wildlife experiences with vibrant cultural heritage, modern infrastructure, and warm hospitality. The country’s focus on sustainability and innovation is setting a new standard for tourism development across the continent.

Rebecca Miano, the Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary, emphasized Kenya’s readiness to lead with sustainable tourism, innovation, and strategic partnerships that drive inclusive growth and empower communities. Her remarks came during a Ministers’ forum, highlighting the nation’s commitment to responsible and impactful tourism practices.

Through consistent efforts and a focus on both traditional and emerging tourism sectors, Kenya is not only securing its place as a top African destination but also positioning itself as a leader in global tourism. With continued investment and collaboration, the country is well on its way to achieving long-term success in the sector.
