MTN Ghana’s Ambition 2025 Strategy
MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to its Ambition 2025 strategy, a comprehensive plan aimed at transforming the company from a traditional telecommunications provider into a leading digital and platform player. This initiative was launched in 2021 with the goal of enabling MTN to effectively respond to evolving industry dynamics while driving sustainable growth and innovation.
At the recent Media and Stakeholders engagement in Takoradi, Adwoa Wiafe, Chief Corporate and Sustainability Officer at MTN, provided insights into the strategy. She explained that Ambition 2025 is structured around five key areas: fintech, big data and intelligence, enterprise solutions, network-as-a-service, and API. According to management, APIs play a crucial role in simplifying customer experiences by enabling seamless digital transactions, such as paying ECG bills or accessing other services through mobile connectivity.
Wiafe noted that Ambition 2025 was designed as a five-year strategy, and this year marks its fifth year. The company is currently fine-tuning the strategy to ensure it continues to respond to industry changes, stakeholder expectations, and the sustainability needs of its business.
Key Focus Areas for Growth
Madam Wiafe outlined three main focus areas that will anchor MTN’s growth agenda beyond 2025: connectivity, fintech, and digital platforms.
Connectivity
MTN is actively expanding its network and improving service quality. Between 2021 and 2025, the company pledged to invest $1 billion in its network infrastructure, a commitment that has been fully met. This year alone, over $300 million has been invested to enhance coverage and service reliability across the country.
Fintech
In the fintech space, MTN is deepening its mobile money (MoMo) services, broadening access to financial services, and leveraging technology to promote inclusion and efficiency in digital payments.
Digital Platforms
Regarding digital platforms, Madam Wiafe stated that the telecom giant is integrating more services into its MTN and MoMo apps, providing customers with convenient access to products and services from the comfort of their homes.
Sustainability and ESG Commitment
As part of Ambition 2025, MTN has placed a strong emphasis on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. The company has set a target to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040 and continues to roll out initiatives aimed at reducing its carbon footprint, supporting communities, and fostering inclusive digital growth.
“Our belief is that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected life. That’s why we are working to extend connectivity to all while contributing meaningfully to Ghana’s development through our taxes, network investments, and digitalization programmes,” she emphasized.
Future Connectivity Plans
On future connectivity plans, particularly the rollout of 5G services, Wiafe said MTN is working closely with the Government of Ghana to move down the spectrum and accelerate national broadband access. The company remains focused on building partnerships and infrastructure that support the country’s digital transformation agenda.
