Shalkido and 9 Celebs Seek Kenyan Support After 2025 Financial Appeal

Kenyan Celebrities and the Outpouring of Public Support

In 2025, Kenyans once again demonstrated their deep sense of compassion and generosity by rallying behind their favorite celebrities during times of need. Whether it was financial hardship, health issues, or personal struggles, these public figures found strength in the support of their fans, who came together to help them through tough moments.

Throughout the year, many Kenyan celebrities opened up about their challenges, and the public responded with remarkable unity and kindness. From entertainers to media personalities, there were several heartwarming instances where Kenyans stepped up to offer assistance. Here are six notable moments when the nation supported its beloved stars.

1. Shalkido

The late Gengetone singer turned Mugithi artiste, Shalkido ga Cucu, faced significant financial and personal difficulties earlier this year. He revealed that he had been living in a single-room house under challenging conditions. His story moved many Kenyans, leading to an initiative led by Eric Omondi’s Team Sisi kwa Sisi. Through this effort, Shalkido received a motorbike to help him earn a living. Additionally, YouTuber Oga Obinna helped him secure a new, fully furnished bedsitter and even landed a brand deal for him.

Unfortunately, Shalkido passed away on October 6, just weeks after receiving help and preparing to relaunch his music career.

2. Khalif Kairo

At the start of the year, car dealer and entrepreneur Khalif Kairo encountered serious business and legal troubles. He was arrested multiple times over allegations of failing to deliver vehicles after receiving payment, which forced him to shut down his operations. Kairo appealed to his followers for support, sharing a Paybill number to help him rebuild. While he did receive funds from well-wishers, he spent about a month in remand. He also revealed that his WeFunder crowdfunding campaign, which had surpassed $100,000, was suspended due to the ongoing legal situation.

3. Dedan Juma

In August, veteran actor Dedan Juma, known for his role as Zeze on the hit show Pepeta, was hospitalised and in critical condition. His medical bills had risen to KSh 100,000 by August 11, and they continued to increase. He appealed to fans and well-wishers for help, and Kenyans responded with love and generosity. Thanks to their support, Juma eventually recovered and was discharged from the hospital.

4. Kitiki Sam

Celebrity barber Kitiki Sam sought financial support from Kenyans after being diagnosed with GIST cancer. The illness took a heavy toll on his finances, with each daily injection costing KSh 2,800 and every chemotherapy session costing KSh 34,000. His total medical bills had already exceeded KSh 1 million by the time he appealed for help. Kenyans rallied behind him during a TikTok live session, raising funds to help him continue with his treatment.

5. Eliud Lagat

In July, comedian and entertainer Eliud Lagat reached out for help after undergoing an eye operation at Tenwek Hospital. He revealed that he needed to undergo a second procedure and organised a fundraiser in Nandi County, where fans and friends turned up in large numbers to support him. Their generosity helped him raise about KSh 1 million.

6. Mark Bichachi

In October, media commentator and political analyst Mark Bichachi revealed that he had been battling severe pain for three years due to an occipital nerve condition. After undergoing surgery, he experienced unexpected medical complications that drained his finances. He shared a Paybill number online, appealing for help to undergo a second procedure. Bichachi later shared an update thanking all well-wishers who came through for him during his recovery journey.

Other News: Sammy Kioko’s Financial Struggles

In other news, former Churchill Show comedian Sammy Kioko recently spoke about his financial struggles. He accused the Machakos County Government of failing to pay him for a tender to supply uniforms. In a recent update, Kioko put his car up for sale to raise funds, especially to support his ailing sister.
