SSNIT Launches Virtual Branch Service

SSNIT Expands Services with Virtual Branch Operations

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is set to launch virtual branch service operations, aiming to provide seamless and accessible services across Ghana. This initiative is designed to bring essential services closer to the people, making it easier for citizens to engage with the trust.

Mr. Philip Kofi Senya, the General Manager in charge of Operations, highlighted that SSNIT is utilizing technology to enhance service delivery and make it more convenient for individuals to contribute to the scheme. He emphasized that this move aligns with the trust’s mission to ensure accessibility and efficiency in its operations.

At a recent media engagement event in Kumasi, Mr. Senya shared key statistics about the trust’s growth over the years. As of August 2025, SSNIT had over 2.09 million active contributors, a significant increase from the 340,000 contributors recorded in 1965 when the scheme was first introduced. The number of active employers has also grown to around 96,000, while pensioners on SSNIT payroll have reached 257,000, up from just 33 in 1966.

He further mentioned that as of October 2025, a total of GHc 5.1 billion had been paid to beneficiaries. Additionally, the processing time for pensions has been reduced by 85%, showcasing the trust’s commitment to improving efficiency.

Economic Investments and National Development

SSNIT has also been actively investing in various sectors of the Ghanaian economy to promote national development. The trust’s total assets under investment management currently stand at GHc 24,512.91 billion. Mr. Senya noted that 99% of these investments are directed towards the Ghanaian economy, spanning areas such as real estate, mining, hospitality, food and beverages, agriculture, energy, insurance, ICT, and manufacturing.

These investments have played a crucial role in the growth and development of Ghana, positively impacting the lives of many Ghanaians. However, Mr. Senya also pointed out several challenges facing the trust. These include low informal sector coverage, delayed employer remittances, misconceptions about the value proposition of SSNIT, large life expectancy, and micro-economic volatility.

Enhancing Public Awareness and Collaboration

Mr. Henry Imoro, the Ashanti Regional Area Manager of SSNIT, explained that the media engagement event was aimed at creating a platform for dialogue and collaboration with the media. The goal is to intensify public education and awareness on pensions, ensuring that more people understand the importance of the scheme.

Through such initiatives, SSNIT continues to work towards building a more informed and engaged citizenry, which is essential for the sustainability of the social security system.
