Introduction to the Induction of Commodore James Adongo Agambire
Commodore James Adongo Agambire has been officially inducted as the 10th Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) of the Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) at Nutekpor, located in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region. His induction was marked by a vibrant and well-attended ceremony that emphasized the importance of unity, leadership, and community engagement.
The event, held under the theme “Inspiring Excellence through Humble Leadership and Team Synergy,” brought together a wide array of dignitaries and officials from various sectors, including military, government, and local communities. The presence of high-ranking naval officers, members of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), and representatives from both national and international organizations underscored the significance of the occasion.
Key Attendees and Their Contributions
Among the notable attendees were Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, the Chief of Naval Staff; Colonel Dou Yan, the Chinese Defence Attaché; and the President and members of the Naval Officers’ Wives Association (NOWA). Additionally, chiefs and queen mothers from the Agave Traditional Area, along with the Member of Parliament (MP) for the South Tongu Constituency, Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, and the District Chief Executive (DCE), Victoria Dzeklo, were present.
The Director General of the Religious Affairs Unit of the GAF, Apostle Dr. Brigadier General Benjamin Kumi-Woode, led the induction rites, supported by clergy members from both NAVTRAC and the Naval Headquarters in Accra. This spiritual component highlighted the deep-rooted values of service and discipline within the command.
Vision and Challenges of NAVTRAC
During his address, Commodore Agambire emphasized the need for the Command’s collective resolve to enhance the socio-cultural development of the surrounding communities. He stressed the importance of unity and peaceful co-existence between NAVTRAC and its neighbors, which he believes is essential for fostering teamwork and collaboration.
He also shared some of the achievements of NAVTRAC since its official commissioning in October 2020. These include successfully training five batches of recruits and hosting the training of about 400 Army recruits between late 2023 and early 2024. The school is currently preparing to receive and train more recruits as part of the nation-wide recruitment exercise.
However, the FOC also highlighted several challenges facing the Command. These include the poor state of roads and drainage systems, which lead to flooding and hinder movement within the facility. Additionally, inadequate accommodation for staff, instructors, and students limits the potential of the Command to deliver high-quality training to a larger number of students.
Government Support and Future Collaboration
The Minister for Roads and Highways and MP for Adaklu, Governs Kwame Agbodza, served as the Guest of Honour. In a speech read by Mr. Francis Ahlidza, the Director in-charge of Monitoring and Evaluation at the Sector Ministry, the Minister commended the Command for its achievements and assured continued support from the government.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to improving access roads leading to military establishments, which would facilitate mobility, logistics, and the welfare of personnel. The Ministry also expressed readiness to deepen its partnership with the Ministry of Defence and the Ghana Navy in areas of shared interest.
Spiritual Guidance and Leadership Values
In addition to the formal proceedings, the event featured a sermon by Apostle Dr. Brigadier General Kumi-Woode, who emphasized the responsibility of leaders to their subordinates and country. He urged subordinates to be loyal to their leaders, highlighting the importance of serving both God and country.
The Command Imam, S/Lt. Fatih Yusha, delivered an Islamic homily, reminding the congregation that true leadership involves leading and serving with humility. He encouraged leaders to value teamwork and set a good example for others to follow.
Regional and Local Support
The Regional Minister, James Gunu, congratulated Commodore Agambire and pledged the commitment and support of the Volta Regional Co-ordinating Council (VRCC) to the success of his duty tour. The MP for the area, Maxwell Kwame Lukutor, emphasized the strategic location of the Command and expressed optimism about its potential to transform the human resource and economic potentials of the region.
Conclusion
The induction of Commodore James Adongo Agambire marks a new chapter for NAVTRAC, with a focus on community engagement, infrastructure development, and collaborative efforts with various stakeholders. As the Command moves forward, it aims to strengthen its role as a pillar of national development and a beacon of service.
