Nairobi Housekeeper Arrested for Stealing Gun and KSh 348k from Kileleshwa Employer

Househelp Arrested for Alleged Theft of Valuables and Firearm

On Thursday, November 13, Marydina Anupi John appeared before the Kibera Law Courts magistrate over a theft allegation. The case involves a 43-year-old househelp who is accused of stealing from her employer in Kileleshwa.

The court was informed that the suspect had worked for her employer for over two years. According to the police, the incident occurred on November 3 when Marydina allegedly broke into her employer’s bedroom and stole a safe containing Euros, US dollars, and Kenyan shillings. In addition to the cash, the safe also contained a Glock 19 pistol and two magazines with 44 rounds of ammunition.

Detective Simon Ihaji of Kilimani Police Station testified in Kibera Magistrate’s Court about the details of the alleged crime. He stated that the amount stolen included KSh 5,000, 600 Euros, 1,950 USD, and other valuables, including the gun with its serial number attached.

The employer reportedly returned home to find Marydina missing and her phone switched off. This led to an immediate report at Kileleshwa Police Station, triggering a manhunt that eventually resulted in the suspect’s arrest in Kawangware.

During the hearing, the police requested Principal Magistrate Margret Murage to grant them more time to detain the suspect while they investigate potential accomplices who are believed to have the loaded Glock pistol.

Magistrate Margret Murage ordered the accused to remain in police custody until November 24, 2025. After reviewing the application, the magistrate decided to detain Marydina for seven days to complete the investigation into the incident.

“The respondent will therefore be detained at Kilimani Police Station for seven days only, until the 24th, and on this date, I expect a charge sheet to be ready,” the magistrate ruled.
