Enhanced Security Measures for PDP National Convention in Oyo State
The Oyo State Police Command has taken significant steps to ensure the safety and security of attendees during the 2025 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 15, and Sunday, November 16, at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Adamasingba, Ibadan.
In a statement released on X on Friday, dated November 13, 2025, and signed by CSP Osifeso Adewale, the spokesperson for the Command, it was emphasized that the police are “ramping up security measures to guarantee a safe and peaceful event.” The convention is anticipated to draw a large number of participants, including key political figures, international observers, media representatives, and guests from across the country.
The Command has developed a comprehensive security strategy in collaboration with other security agencies. This strategy includes:
- Proactive patrolsaimed at building public confidence and ensuring a visible police presence throughout the state.
- Increased surveillance activities, which will involve monitoring key areas and locations to detect any potential threats.
- Intelligence-driven stop-and-search operationsdesigned to prevent any form of criminal activity or security risks.
Security measures will be especially stringent at entry and exit points into Oyo State, particularly around Adamasingba, where the convention will be held. The Command has also highlighted the importance of monitoring critical locations such as public parks, train stations, and the Samuel Ladoke Akintola International Airport in Ibadan.
To minimize disruptions in mobility during the two-day event, the police have urged residents to plan their movements carefully. They encourage members of the public to explore alternative routes from the venue to avoid any potential disruptions in their travel plans.
The Command has issued a firm warning against any actions that could disturb public peace during the event. It cautioned that “any forms of public unrest, including unauthorized rallies or gatherings within the city before, during, or after the event” will not be tolerated. This message is intended to deter any potential acts of violence or disorder.
Reassuring the residents, the police emphasized their commitment to protecting lives and property. The Oyo State Police Command has called on the community to comply with all guidelines and help cultivate a peaceful atmosphere during this important occasion.
