Addressing Concerns Over International Remarks
A member of the House of Representatives from Ado Odo/Ota Federal Constituency, Tunji Akinosi, has addressed concerns among Nigerians regarding a statement made by the former United States President, Donald Trump, about deploying military forces in Nigeria to stop an alleged genocide against Christians. Akinosi emphasized that such remarks were unnecessary given the progress being made in addressing insecurity and improving economic conditions.
The lawmaker expressed his views during the sidelines of the 2025 Ayetoro Yewa Day celebration and the community’s launch of a N1bn Arcade and Civic Centre. He pointed out that while insecurity remains a significant issue, the administration of President Bola Tinubu is making strides in tackling it effectively.
Akinosi assured the public that President Tinubu is in control of the situation and that there was no need for panic. He highlighted that insecurity has been a long-standing challenge in Nigeria, not just under the current administration. However, he noted that the present government has taken decisive action to address these issues.
He stated:
“Well, insecurity is everywhere in Nigeria and it did not start with the present administration. This has been going on for about 20 years now. This administration has taken the bull by the horns and the present administration is tackling insecurity headlong. We are achieving success all around. If you check you will see that we are restoring the local government back to its expected status.”
Akinosi also suggested that Trump’s comments were more of a political move rather than a genuine concern. He questioned why such statements were made at a time when Nigeria is making progress in the fight against insecurity. He added that the individuals responsible for violence do not discriminate based on race, color, or religion, and that President Tinubu has remained committed to addressing these challenges.
He concluded by urging Nigerians not to be alarmed, stating:
“To Nigerians, there is no cause for alarm, no reason for apprehension, we are on top of it and the president is leading us well.”
Government Infrastructure Projects Highlighted
At the same event, Dr Iziaq Salako, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare and Principal Host of the occasion, commended the Tinubu administration for its focus on people-oriented projects. He highlighted the efforts of the Federal Government in improving infrastructure, particularly in the Yewa area of Ogun State.
Salako mentioned that in the past two years, road projects worth ₦550bn have been constructed in the region. He noted that the improvements have significantly benefited the people of Ogun West, especially in terms of transportation and connectivity.
He said:
“If you look around you will notice that we have never had it this good in Ogun state and particularly in Yewa, you will notice that the projects that have been done in recent times are meeting the needs of the people in Ogun west. One of the greatest challenges we have in this area of the state is a good road network and you will notice that the government is not working on roads. We have now awarded 163 kilometers of roads with a value of N550bn.”
He further explained that the road projects cover four local governments in Ofun West, starting from Ijoga end of Yewa North up to Ado in Ado Odo Ota leading to Badagry. He also mentioned that some parts of the longest road in Ogun West, from Ilara to Ifonyin Tedo, have already been completed, and the government is not stopping yet.
