Pakistan Applauds Turkey and Qatar for Bridging Islamabad-Kabul Divide

Pakistan’s Stance on Terrorism and Bilateral Relations with Afghanistan

Pakistan has expressed deep appreciation for the sincere efforts of its brotherly nations, Turkey and Qatar, in mediating differences between Islamabad and Kabul regarding the core issue of terrorism. The country remains committed to resolving bilateral issues through dialogue, but emphasizes that the primary concern—terrorism originating from Afghan soil—must be addressed first.

A Commitment to Dialogue and Security

The Foreign Office spokesperson highlighted that since the Taliban regime came into power in Afghanistan, there has been a sharp increase in terrorist attacks targeting Pakistan. Despite suffering military and civilian casualties, Pakistan has exercised maximum restraint and refrained from retaliation. The country has also attempted to engage positively with Afghanistan by offering trade concessions and humanitarian assistance. However, the Taliban regime has consistently avoided taking concrete and verifiable actions against terrorist groups, instead attempting to confuse terrorism with other irrelevant issues to absolve itself of responsibilities.

A Strong Response to Ongoing Threats

Pakistan’s response to consistent attacks from Afghanistan last month demonstrated its determination to safeguard its territory and people. The spokesperson reiterated that the TTP (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan) and BLA (Balochistan Liberation Army) are declared enemies of Pakistan. Anyone harboring, abetting, or financing these groups is not considered a friend of Pakistan.

The people and Armed Forces of Pakistan stand united in their resolve to eliminate the menace of terrorism and take action against its supporters, abettors, and financiers. While Pakistan has never rejected dialogue with any government in Kabul, it will not engage with any terrorist group, regardless of whether it is TTP or BLA.

Mediation and Peace Efforts

Pakistan is a strong proponent of peace and diplomacy. In this spirit, and following the advice of Turkey and Qatar, the country agreed to engage in talks with the Afghan regime, mediated by sincere friends. The third round of Pak-Afghan talks was approached constructively, focusing on establishing an effective monitoring mechanism. However, the Taliban regime showed interest only in prolonging the temporary ceasefire, without taking concrete actions against TTP and BLA elements in Afghanistan.

Addressing the Misrepresentation of Terrorists

The Taliban regime has repeatedly tried to portray TTP and BLA elements as refugees in Afghanistan. The Foreign Office spokesperson clarified that this is not a humanitarian or refugee issue but a ploy to frame terrorists as refugees. Following Pakistan’s Operation Zarb-e-Azb in 2015, many terrorists belonging to the TTP fled to Afghanistan, where they were abetted by the Afghan Taliban. These individuals now operate training camps in Afghanistan to launch attacks in Pakistan.

Pakistan has demanded the handover of these terrorists, but the Taliban regime has repeatedly refused, citing a lack of control. This issue has shifted from being a matter of capability to one of intent on the part of the Taliban regime.

Receiving Afghans and Ensuring Security

The Foreign Office spokesperson stated that Pakistan is ready to receive any Pakistani living in Afghanistan and their families, provided they are handed over at the border crossings of Torkham or Chaman. They should not be thrown across the border equipped with weapons and equipment.

There are individuals within the Afghan Taliban who do not want a confrontation with Pakistan. However, a strong lobby, supported financially by foreign actors, has been tasked with stoking tensions.

Rejecting Misleading Propaganda

The spokesperson rejected misleading propaganda from some elements within the Taliban regime suggesting disagreement within Pakistan over Afghan policy. He emphasized that there is absolute clarity and unity among the people of Pakistan on this issue.

Addressing Pashtoon Nationalism

The Taliban regime has attempted to instigate Pashtoon nationalism in Pakistan. The spokesperson noted that Pashtoons in Pakistan are a vibrant part of society, holding leadership positions across various sectors. Instead of instigating Pashtoonism, the Taliban regime should focus on improving inclusivity within its own governance structures.
