Some of these videos, analyzed by the Japan Fact-Check Center, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving media literacy, contain visible watermarks from OpenAI’s AI tool Sora. According to Daisuke Furuta, the chief editor at the fact-check organization, the number of fake bear videos has risen alongside the increase in news reports about bear-related damage.

The situation has reached a critical point, with 13 deaths reported from bear attacks since April, according to government data. By September, over 100 people had been attacked.
