The 10th National Quiz Competition on Legislature and Democracy Celebrates Knowledge and Democracy
The School of the Gifted, Gwagwalada, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, emerged as the champion at the 10th National Quiz Competition on Legislature and Democracy for Senior Secondary Schools in Nigeria. The event was organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) and took place on Monday. This competition brings together students from across the country to showcase their understanding of democratic principles, legislative processes, and civic responsibilities.
NILDS is an organ of the National Assembly, with a core mandate of supporting legislative research and training of parliamentarians. Over the years, the quiz has become a significant platform for promoting civic education among Nigerian youth. The grand finale featured champions from the six geopolitical zones, representing schools from all 36 states and the FCT.
Competing Schools and Results
The competing schools included Annunciation Catholic College, Irrua (South-South); Academic Planet Aba, Abia (South-East); Model Secondary School, Akure (South-West); Pen Resource Academy, Gombe (North-East); School of the Gifted, Gwagwalada (North-Central); and Bilikisu International School, Kaduna (North-West).
After a fiercely contested competition, the School of the Gifted, representing North-Central, topped the leaderboard with 70 points to claim first place. Model Secondary School, Akure, secured second place with 60 points after a tie-breaker, while Annunciation Catholic College, Irrua, also scored 60 points and took third place.

Speaking at the event, NILDS Director-General Prof. Abubakar Suleiman described the event as a celebration of knowledge, citizenship, and Nigeria’s democratic spirit. He noted that over the past decade, the quiz had become a vital civic education platform promoting democracy awareness among Nigerian youth.
Suleiman emphasized that democracy thrives on an informed citizenry as much as its institutions. Marking its 10th anniversary, the quiz competition began in the FCT and has now expanded nationwide.
