A Strategic Asset for the 2027 Election
Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, former Kano State Governor and ex-APC National Chairman, is being viewed as a key political asset in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s plans for the 2027 elections. His close aide, Umar Idris Shuaibu, highlighted this during an exclusive interview with the Arewa PUNCH in Kano, emphasizing that Dr. Ganduje’s strategic insights, vast experience, and formidable political network make him indispensable for the ruling party’s next victory.
“Ganduje is a man who understands Nigerian politics at every level. He navigates challenges with foresight and strategy, turning potential crises into opportunities for party growth and unity,” Shuaibu stated. “If the APC wants to win in 2027, the President can not afford to underestimate the value Ganduje brings.”
During his tenure as APC National Chairman, Ganduje presided over a wave of defections that significantly bolstered the party’s national strength. High-profile entrants into the APC under his watch included key figures from rival parties and grassroots groups whose alignment shifted the political landscape.
Notably, Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, a close ally of former Kano Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and a prominent NNPP figure, recently joined the APC, signaling a major realignment in Kano politics. Shuaibu recalled, “Ganduje was instrumental in persuading influential opposition members to join the APC, creating alliances that reshaped the political map in several states. These moves were not just symbolic—they translated into real electoral strength.”
A Decade of Political Influence
Beyond these defections, Ganduje’s political journey spans decades, holding senior positions at state and national levels. His eight-year governorship of Kano State (2015–2023) and his tenure as APC National Chairman are testaments to his leadership and influence.
Shuaibu stressed, “Few leaders have the combination of experience, political wisdom, and strategic vision that Ganduje possesses. He knows how to read the political terrain and position the party to maximize its chances of victory.” In Kano, nearly all major political figures have aligned with the APC under Ganduje’s influence, effectively consolidating the state’s political landscape in favor of the party.
“This consolidation has broader implications,” the Ganduje political ally noted. “The alignment of Kano’s bigwigs into the APC not only strengthens the party locally but sends a powerful message nationally. It positions the APC strategically for 2027 and underscores Ganduje’s ability to shape politics beyond his home state.”
The Role of Ganduje in 2027
As the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections, Shuaibu emphasized Ganduje’s potential role in delivering success. “His network across states, his experience in navigating opposition challenges, and his understanding of party dynamics make him a central figure in the strategy for 2027. He can build bridges where others see divisions, bring key stakeholders on board, and ensure the APC maintains cohesion and momentum.”
Shuaibu insisted, “Dr. Ganduje understands that winning elections requires both strategic planning and effective execution. His counsel to the President can be the difference between fragmented efforts and a united, winning strategy.”
A Statesman for the APC
As the APC charts its path toward 2027, Shuaibu made it clear: “Ganduje is not just a former governor or party chairman. He is a statesman whose experience and influence are essential for consolidating the party’s strengths, neutralising opposition threats, and ensuring a successful electoral outcome.”
“President Tinubu’s 2027 victory will depend on strong alliances, unity, and strategic positioning. Dr. Ganduje has proven he can deliver all of that,” the politician reiterated.
