Anambra Police Chief: ‘Return Home This Christmas, State Is Secure’

A Call for Unity and Safety in Anambra State

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu, has made a heartfelt appeal to the citizens of the state, both those residing within the borders and those living abroad, to return home for the upcoming Christmas celebrations. He has assured them that the state will be safe and peaceful during this festive season.

Orutugu spoke following what many have described as the most peaceful and successful governorship election in the history of Anambra State. This outcome, he said, is a clear indication that the state now enjoys a stable and secure environment.

Having assumed his duties nine months ago as the 35th Commissioner of Police in the state, Orutugu highlighted that his command’s proactive and community-focused approach to policing has played a significant role in maintaining peace across all local government areas.

“Anambra is safe. Come home for Christmas,” he confidently declared.

Strategies for Sustaining Peace

The police chief explained that the security success achieved in the state was built on sustained community engagement, visible patrols, and intelligence-driven operations. His leadership style emphasizes collaboration with local leaders and communities to ensure a shared responsibility for safety.

Renowned for his people-focused approach, CP Orutugu’s philosophy of “policing without guns” centers around empathy, counseling, and appealing to the conscience of citizens rather than relying solely on force. This approach has helped build trust and foster positive relationships between the police and the public.

He emphasized the importance of cooperation with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and religious figures. These partnerships have enabled the early sharing of intelligence and have strengthened public trust in the police force.

Flashpoint Deployment Strategy

Orutugu introduced a “flashpoint deployment strategy” that identifies and secures areas prone to criminal activity. This strategy ensures that all border and high-risk communities are under close protection, minimizing the chances of crime and ensuring the safety of residents.

In terms of internal accountability, Orutugu reaffirmed his zero-tolerance policy on police misconduct, extortion, and abuse of power. He insisted that professionalism and respect for human rights remain non-negotiable under his leadership.

“Our residents and returning indigenes will see visible security presence, rapid response capability, and officers who are ready to protect lives and property,” he assured.

A Model of Peace and Security

Concluding his remarks, Orutugu described Anambra as a model of peace and security in the South-East region of Nigeria. He added:

“Through deliberate policing and grassroots engagement, we have sustained peace. Anambra is ready for the festive season — come home and celebrate without fear.”

This message of hope and unity comes at a time when the state is striving to maintain its reputation as a safe and secure place to live and visit. With continued efforts from the police and the support of the community, Anambra is well-positioned to offer a memorable and worry-free Christmas experience for all.
