Court Affirms Muhammed Sani Gambo as Kogi State PDP Chairman
A Federal High Court in Lokoja has officially recognized Hon. Muhammed Sani Gambo as the Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State. The court delivered a landmark judgment in suit no. FHC/LKJ/CS/39/2024, where Justice Isah A. Danshan declared Gambo as the duly elected leader of the state branch of the party.
The judge emphasized the importance of continuity within the party by stating that “nature abhors a vacuum.” As a result, he ordered the immediate swearing-in of Gambo and directed all relevant security agencies to ensure the process is carried out without delay. Additionally, the court compelled the national leadership of the PDP and other concerned authorities to recognize Gambo as the legitimate chairman of the Kogi State branch.
This ruling comes after a contentious election held on August 31, 2024, during which Gambo finished second. However, the alleged winner, Enemona Anyebe, had previously been barred from participating in the congress. The court referenced the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) result sheets to confirm that the PDP maintained its zoning arrangement, which led to Gambo being declared the winner due to his majority of valid votes.
The court also dismissed a joinder suit filed by Tony Amego, who claimed to be the rightful winner based on micro-zoning. The judge described this claim as “null and void” and lacking in merit, adding that such an approach was undemocratic.
A Victory for All Party Members
In his response to the court’s decision, Hon. Muhammed Sani Gambo referred to the judgment as one of “no victor, no vanquished.” He highlighted that his victory was not just personal but for all members of the party. Gambo expressed his commitment to repositioning the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections and called on his co-contestants to unite with him in rebuilding the party for future success.
He also voiced optimism about the PDP’s potential comeback, stating that the party could reclaim Lugard House and eventually take over the presidency in 2027. Gambo described the PDP as “the party for Nigerians,” emphasizing its role in representing the interests of the broader population.
Looking Ahead
Gambo’s leadership is expected to bring renewed focus and direction to the PDP in Kogi State. His vision includes strengthening party structures, increasing member engagement, and developing strategies to compete effectively in upcoming elections. By fostering unity and collaboration, he aims to restore the party’s prominence and prepare it for a strong showing in 2027.
As the new chairman, Gambo faces the challenge of uniting various factions within the party and addressing internal issues that may have contributed to past setbacks. His ability to lead with transparency, inclusivity, and a clear vision will be crucial in determining the party’s trajectory in the coming years.
