29th GJA Awards: Four Ghana News Agency Reporters Nominated

Four journalists from the Ghana News Agency (GNA) have been recognized for their outstanding contributions to journalism by being nominated for the 29th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 8, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi. The nominees include Albert Oppong Ansah, an Editor; Issifu Dasmani Laary, Eastern Regional Manager; James Amoh Junior, Chief Reporter; and Solomon Gumah, Reporter.

At a press briefing held in Accra, Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, President of the GJA, revealed that the Awards Committee received a total of 321 entries, with 38 of them being shortlisted for the awards. He praised the committee for its hard work within a tight schedule and confirmed that everything is ready for the grand ceremony.

The awards ceremony will feature several prestigious categories, including the GJA/P.A.V. Ansah Journalist of the Year, Best Female Journalist of the Year, Komla Dumor Most Promising Journalist of the Year, and Best Student Journalist of the Year. The event will be hosted by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and will also see the presence of President John Dramani Mahama and other notable figures.

The theme of the ceremony is “Safeguarding Ghana’s Future: The Role of the Media in Promoting Peace, Security and the Fight Against Galamsey.” This focus highlights the importance of media in addressing critical national issues.

The Awards Committee is chaired by Mr. Gabriel Bosompem, who previously served as a Commissioner of the National Media Commission and as a Production Manager at TV3 (Media General). The committee members include:

  • Madam Agnes Boye-Doe, Deputy News Editor at the Ghana News Agency
  • Mr. Kingsley Obeng-Kyere, 2012 GJA-PAV Ansah Journalist of the Year and Senior Manager at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC)
  • Nana Yaa Konadu, Presenter at Peace FM
  • Madam Theresa Owusu Ako, Former Head of Radio News at GBC

Other members are:

  • Mr. David Andoh, President of the Ghana Photojournalists Network and Photojournalist at Multimedia
  • Alhaji Salifu Abdul Rahaman, Editor at the Ghanaian Times
  • Mr. Samuel Bio, Night Editor at Graphic Communications Group Limited
  • Mr. Jeorge Wilson Kingston, Executive Secretary of PRINPAG
