Key Developments in Anambra State Governorship Election
As the D-Day for the governorship election in Anambra State draws closer, a significant political shift has been observed with former Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Chief Oseloka H. Obaze, publicly endorsing the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr. John Chuma Nwosu.
Obaze not only supported Nwosu but also hosted him at his country home in Ochuche, Umuodu, within the Ogbaru Local Government Area. This event marked a clear declaration of support for Nwosu’s candidacy and was attended by top ADC leaders, members of the campaign team, and various political stakeholders in the region. The gathering is seen as a major boost for the ADC as the election campaign enters its final phase.
During the event, Obaze emphasized that Anambra is in dire straits and needs a change in leadership, which he believes can be achieved on November 8th. He stated:
“I’ve lived in Anambra since 2012. I pay taxes here. I run my consultancy here. I’ve experienced the good, the bad, and the ugly here in Anambra. When things are not good, we should speak up and speak the truth to power. I don’t criticise public servants for the heck of it. I’ve been in government at the federal, international, and state levels. I know the challenges.”
Obaze criticized the hypocrisy of those who condemn a government in private but support it publicly. He pointed out that many Anambra elites avoid visiting the state due to insecurity, yet they support a government that fails to protect their lives and properties. He argued that this behavior makes no sense.
He further expressed his belief in the ADC and stated that John Chuma Nwosu represents Anambra’s best option.
Nwosu’s Response and Message
Following the event, Mr. Nwosu expressed deep appreciation for Chief Obaze’s unambiguous show of friendship and loyalty. Despite not being a member of the ADC or any other political party at the moment, Nwosu described Obaze’s support as a mark of courage, loyalty, frankness, and true friendship. He added that he remains deeply indebted to Obaze.
Nwosu also commended Obaze’s unwavering commitment to the Ogbaru community, noting that the warm reception from residents reflected the respect and admiration they hold for him. He used the occasion to urge the Anambra elite and their followers to prioritize the state’s interest over personal or partisan considerations as the polls approach.
According to Nwosu, people must rise above transactional politics that undermine the sustainable development of Anambra State. He encouraged voters to support the ADC as the credible alternative.
Impact on the Political Landscape
The endorsement by Obaze is expected to have a significant impact on the political landscape of Anambra State. His influence and credibility among the local population could sway voter sentiment in favor of the ADC. As the election approaches, such endorsements become crucial in shaping public opinion and mobilizing support.
With the final phase of the campaign underway, all eyes are on how the candidates will leverage these developments to secure votes. The ADC, bolstered by Obaze’s support, is likely to gain momentum in the coming days.
