Key Highlights from the Latest FTBFWSL Matchday
In a thrilling match on Sunday, Kawempe Muslim emerged victorious against She Corporate with a 2-0 win, securing their position at the top of the Finance Trust Bank Fufa Women Super League (FTBFWSL). Latifah Nakasi was the hero of the day, scoring both goals in the first half. This result not only highlighted her individual brilliance but also showcased the team’s strategic approach to exploit weaknesses in the opposition’s defense.
She Corporate, known for their strong defensive record in the FWSL, had always relied on the forward movement of their leftback, Cissy Nakate. However, Kawempe managed to counter this by utilizing their wingers, Asia Nakibuuka and Jovia Nakagolo, who consistently stretched the defense and created opportunities.
The opening goal came in the second minute when Nakagolo made a clever run into the space vacated by Nakate. She delivered a precise cross to Nakibuuka, who headed the ball toward Nakasi, allowing her to score the first goal of the match. Twenty minutes later, Nakagolo repeated the same maneuver, finding Nakasi again, who capitalized on the opportunity to net the second goal from close range.
Kawempe’s coach, Ayub Khalifa, praised the team’s resilience and adaptability during the game. “The most important thing was to win against a team that is close to us on the table, but even after the goals, our opponents stayed in the game,” he said. He emphasized the need for better defending from around the 65th or 70th minute, noting that the pitch conditions were different from their training grounds, which added to the challenge.
With this win, Kawempe moved to 16 points, three points ahead of She Corporate, reinforcing their dominance in the league.
