Incident in Karachi: Tragic Collision and Aftermath

In a tragic incident that unfolded in Karachi, a man was killed and his wife injured after a dumper truck struck them while they were riding a motorcycle. The event triggered widespread anger among the local community, leading to a significant public reaction.

The collision occurred on Nishtar Road in the Ramswami area, where 23-year-old Shahzeb Shahid lost his life, and his wife, Misbah, was seriously injured. In response to the tragedy, citizens gathered in the Garden area of Karachi and set fire to the dumper truck involved in the accident. This act of protest led to further tensions when it was alleged that members of the dumper truck owners association opened fire on the protesters.

Arrests and Investigations

Karachi police confirmed that one suspect, identified as a gunman linked to Liaquat Mehsud, the Sindh president of the All Dumper Truck Owners Association, had been arrested for allegedly firing on the enraged crowd. The weapon used in the incident was also recovered, according to a statement by South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Syed Asad Raza. He added that raids are being conducted to arrest Mehsud himself.

The case against Mehsud and other suspects involves charges of firing on the protesters at the scene of the incident. The police have registered a case related to this matter, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the involvement of the dumper truck owners’ association.

Political Tensions and Social Media Threats

Separately, a former MPA of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Kamran Farooqi, has been booked under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca) for allegedly threatening Liaquat Mehsud. A first information report (FIR) was registered against Farooqi by Garden police, citing Section 506-B of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) for criminal intimidation involving threats of death or grievous harm.

According to the FIR, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) named Rao Muhammad Shahrukh claimed to have seen a video on social media where Farooqi made statements suggesting that Mehsud was fortunate to have escaped the situation. The video included text stating that Mehsud was “fortunate” to have avoided the fate of the dumper truck’s driver.

Legal Proceedings for the Dumper Driver

In another development, the driver of the dumper truck involved in the hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of Shahzaib and the injury of his wife has been granted bail by the court. The driver, identified as Niazullah, was presented before the court by the Garden West police. According to reports, Niazullah ran over Shahzaib in the Garden area, causing his death and serious injuries to his wife.

Witnesses to the incident apprehended the driver and handed him over to the police. Niazullah’s lawyer, Nazirullah Mehsud, filed a bail application on behalf of the accused. The court approved the bail application against a surety bond of Rs3 million. However, due to the non-payment of the surety amount, the accused has been sent to jail.

Nazirullah Mehsud, the lawyer, stated that the surety amount would be deposited by tomorrow, allowing the driver’s release.
