Accusations of Mismanagement and Financial Disputes in Osun State
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has made serious allegations against Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing him of mismanaging state resources. The party has called for a detailed breakdown of the funds received since his assumption of office in November 2022.
In a statement released by its chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, in Osogbo, the state capital, on Tuesday, the opposition party claimed that despite significant federal allocations to the state, students of Osun State University and the University of Ilesa—both owned by the state—are still being charged what it describes as “outrageous” tuition and accommodation fees.
According to the APC, the Adeleke administration has received over ₦850 billion in allocations between November 2022 and September 2025. However, the party argues that there is little or nothing to show for this funding. It further claims that from July to September 2025 alone, the government received ₦124 billion in federal allocations, averaging ₦41 billion monthly.
“Given the huge allocation accrued to the state in just a few months, no youth of the state deserves to be subjected to the hardship the administration has imposed upon them,” the statement said.
The party also highlighted that students of the University of Ilesa were recently on the streets protesting what they described as “satanic school and accommodation fees” imposed by the governor and his allies. According to the APC, students at UNILESA are being charged up to ₦1.5 million per session, with on-campus accommodation costing ₦800,000 per room. Meanwhile, students at UNIOSUN pay between ₦600,000 and ₦1 million for accommodation alone.
In addition to these allegations, the APC accused the governor of neglecting pensioners and failing to settle ₦6 billion in gratuity arrears for 2025. Despite this, the party claims that 26% of state revenue has been spent on capital projects.
Response from the Governor’s Spokesperson
However, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, dismissed the allegations as “fake news from a party set for another defeat in 2026.” He described the opposition’s claims of a ₦1 trillion allocation as “a devilish fabrication and mischievous propaganda” aimed at discrediting a performing administration.
Rasheed emphasized that the government has prudently managed state resources and achieved major milestones in infrastructure, healthcare, education, sports, and welfare. He pointed to several developments, including almost 322 kilometers of roads across the state, 200 renovated health centers, over 100 rehabilitated schools, ongoing dualization projects, upgraded waterworks, and other developmental initiatives.
He added that Adeleke has reduced Osun’s debt stock by 40%, paid outstanding workers’ salaries and pensions, enrolled over 30,000 pensioners in the state’s health insurance scheme, and has not borrowed a kobo since assuming office. Additionally, the governor forgoes security votes and ensures all security expenditures go through proper approval processes.
Rasheed also accused the previous APC administration of “seizing local government funds” and forcing the current government to shoulder local government financial burdens to keep workers paid.
Ongoing Political Rivalry
The Osun APC and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have frequently exchanged accusations regarding governance, finances, and internal party crises. Earlier in November, the APC claimed that ongoing crises within the PDP’s national structure could lead to the party’s collapse. In response, the PDP dismissed the claim as “a lazy attempt to distract from APC’s own disunity and leadership failure.”
