APR vs Rayon Sports: Taleb’s Attack Plan

Strategic Approach and Challenges for APR FC

APR FC’s head coach, Abderrahim Taleb, has outlined his team’s strategy for the upcoming Rwanda Premier League match against Rayon Sports. Taleb emphasized that while the game is crucial, his side will focus on playing attacking football without taking unnecessary risks. This approach is aimed at maintaining a balance between aggression and caution, especially given the high stakes of the encounter.

The match between APR FC and Rayon Sports is set to take place at Amahoro Stadium, marking one of the most anticipated fixtures in the league. A win for APR FC would see them climb to third place with 11 points, while a victory for Rayon Sports would elevate them to 16 points, tying them with Police FC, the current league leaders. Taleb acknowledged the intensity of the match, noting that it is a “derby” but also a normal game. His experience in handling such high-pressure matches, both in Morocco and across various African clubs like AS FAR, Wydad, and Renaissance Sportive de Berkane, gives him confidence in navigating this challenge.

Player Availability and Team Dynamics

Taleb also addressed the issue of player availability, mentioning that several key players have been absent from recent matches. The list includes Burkinabe striker Djibril Ouattara, who has returned to training, as well as Memel Dao, Mamadou Sy, Yussif Dauda, and Gilbert Mugisha. Taleb explained that the absence of these five players has posed significant challenges for the team. He highlighted the difficulty of replacing so many players within a short span, emphasizing the need for patience from fans.

The team has played four games so far, and Taleb urged supporters to remain patient as the squad works through these challenges. He also pointed out that refereeing errors have had an impact on their performance in the last two matches. These mistakes have cost APR FC valuable points, further complicating their position in the league.

Refereeing Controversies and Calls for Improvement

A notable incident occurred during a previous match between APR FC and Rutsiro FC, where referee Justin Karangwa faced criticism for a controversial decision. In the 75th minute, APR FC forward William Togui appeared to score a second goal after heading in a cross from Hakim Kiwanuka. However, the assistant referee, also named Justin Karangwa, flagged for offside, leading to the goal being disallowed. This decision resulted in a 1-1 draw, which left Taleb frustrated.

In response to this situation, the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) suspended Karangwa for four weeks due to officiating errors. Taleb used this opportunity to call for improved refereeing standards, stressing the importance of quality officials in supporting football development.

Current Standing and Upcoming Match

After four games, APR FC currently sit in eighth place with eight points, preparing to face Rayon Sports, who are in second place with 13 points from six games. Taleb remains focused on the upcoming match, determined to secure a result that will help the team climb the league table.

With the pressure of the derby and the challenges of player availability and refereeing issues, Taleb’s leadership will be crucial in guiding APR FC through this critical phase of the season. Fans will be watching closely to see if the team can turn their fortunes around and make a strong statement against their arch-rivals.
