Strategic Acquisition by Maspex Group
The Competition Councils of Romania, Bulgaria, and the Republic of Moldova have approved the necessary authorizations for Maspex Romania to take over the majority shareholding in Purcari Wineries. This marks a significant milestone in the expansion of the Maspex Group, which has been operating in Romania for nearly three decades.
In July of this year, Maspex Group became the majority shareholder of one of the largest producers of wine and brandy in Central and Eastern Europe. The acquisition is the 22nd transaction in the group’s history and the fourth in Romania, highlighting the country’s importance in the company’s strategic plans.
Regulatory Approval and Strategic Importance
The final regulatory step for the transaction involves obtaining authorization from the Commission for the Examination of Foreign Direct Investments in Romania. This approval underscores the significance of Romania as a key market for the Maspex Group. As the largest Polish investor in Romania, the company continues to strengthen its presence in the region.
Purcari Wineries, with a history dating back to 1827, has been listed on the Bucharest Stock Exchange since February 2018. The company manages over 2,000 hectares of vineyards and operates six wineries across the Republic of Moldova, Romania, and Bulgaria. Its long-standing reputation and extensive operations make it a valuable asset for Maspex.
Leadership Statements
Krzysztof Pawiński, Co-owner and CEO of the Maspex Group, emphasized the importance of the acquisition. “The acquisition of Purcari Wineries is a significant step in continuing our strategy of expanding in the alcoholic beverages segment in Central and Eastern Europe,” he said. “We have been developing in this region for years and intend to continue growing our consumer base.”
Victor Bostan, founder of Purcari Wineries, added, “Together with Maspex, we will continue to provide full support to the Purcari management team in achieving the medium-term strategic objective, 2x by 200. The Purcari–Maspex partnership will accelerate growth and operational excellence while ensuring that we remain true to our values.”
