Woman arrested after lover’s body found at her home

The Arrest of a Woman in Connection with Her Lover’s Death

A woman, identified only as Mrs. Janet (surname withheld), was arrested by detectives from the Oyo State Police Command on Tuesday following the death of her lover, Mr. Olubunmi (surname withheld). His body was discovered outside her room in Kajola Community, Apete, Ibadan. According to reports, it was the deceased’s own lover who went to report the incident at the local police station.

In addition to the man’s lifeless body, his Hyundai vehicle was found on the roadside near the entrance to the community where the woman resides. Inside the deceased’s pocket, investigators found his car key, mobile phone, and some cash. A mark on his forehead was also noted, which is suspected to be the result of violence.

Mr. Olubunmi, a clerk at a well-known law chamber in the Adamasingba area of Ibadan, was married but had been engaged in an affair with Mrs. Janet, who works as a food vendor in the same area. It was reported that he often brought Mrs. Janet home to Kajola Community before heading back to his family home in the Ologuneru area.

According to Mrs. Janet, on Monday evening, Mr. Olubunmi brought her home as usual and then left for his family. She claimed she tried calling his number to check if he had arrived home, but he did not answer.

The next morning, Mrs. Janet said she saw her lover’s car parked on the roadside at the entrance to the community when she was going out. She noticed that the car door was not locked. When she returned, the body of Mr. Olubunmi was found at the back of the window, with a wound on his forehead. His car key, phone, and money were still in his pocket.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that Mr. Olubunmi had suspected Mrs. Janet of having an affair with another man. He allegedly pretended to leave but returned to confirm his suspicions, reportedly encountering another man. Mrs. Janet was also accused of having other lovers in the area where Mr. Olubunmi worked. However, she denied these allegations.

As a large crowd gathered around the police station where Mrs. Janet was detained, the deceased’s wife arrived, visibly emotional and angry. She accused the woman of killing her husband, despite warnings from the wife to end the relationship once she discovered it.

Legal practitioners from the law chamber where Mr. Olubunmi worked were also reported to have visited the police station, vowing to uncover the truth behind the staff member’s death.

CSP Adewale Osifeso, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State Command, confirmed the incident when contacted. He stated that the case had been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Iyaganku, Ibadan, for further investigation.
