Hajj Committee Issues Key Advisories for Pilgrims
Sri Lanka has taken several steps to ensure a smooth and organized Hajj process for its pilgrims. The Hajj Committee Chairman, Reyaz Mihular, recently addressed the media to provide essential guidance to those planning to undertake the pilgrimage in 2026.
Mihular emphasized the importance of avoiding unauthorized brokers when handling passport-related matters. He advised pilgrims to deal directly with the appointed Hajj operators, which number 93 in total. These operators have been designated to assist pilgrims with all necessary procedures and documentation.
The briefing was held at the premises of the Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Department. During the event, Mihular also highlighted the need for all registered pilgrims to open a Hajj Account and make a deposit of Rs. 750,000 by November 10. This financial requirement is part of the official process to ensure that pilgrims are prepared for the expenses associated with the journey.
So far, 5,000 pilgrims have been registered for the 2026 Hajj, with 3,500 of them having received approval from the Saudi Arabian authorities. The Chairman noted that the Saudi government has placed significant emphasis on the health conditions of pilgrims. As a result, a doctor will be sent to brief participants on the medical requirements they must meet. Any adverse findings in medical reports could lead to visa rejection, making it crucial for pilgrims to prioritize their health before the trip.
Accommodation Arrangements for Pilgrims
The Hajj Committee has made comprehensive arrangements for the accommodation of pilgrims during their stay in Saudi Arabia. These arrangements include:
- Makkah: Pilgrims will be housed in 3-star hotels, ensuring a comfortable stay during the holy city’s busy periods.
- Madina: A higher standard of accommodation is provided, with 4-star hotels available for pilgrims visiting the city.
- Azeezia: Pilgrims traveling to Azeezia will be accommodated in 2-star hotels, offering a balance between comfort and cost-effectiveness.
These accommodations are carefully selected to meet the needs of pilgrims while adhering to the guidelines set by the Saudi authorities.
Additional Information and Support
During the media briefing, several key figures from the Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs Department and the Hajj Committee were present. Among them was Director M. S. M. Nawas, along with Members of the Hajj Committee Y. L. M. Navavi, Prof. M. S. M. Aslam, and T. K. Azoor. Their presence underscored the collective effort being made to support Sri Lankan pilgrims in their spiritual journey.
The Hajj Committee continues to work closely with both local and international authorities to ensure that all logistical and administrative aspects of the pilgrimage are handled efficiently. This includes coordinating with the Saudi Arabian government to secure visas, managing the registration process, and providing ongoing support to pilgrims throughout the preparation phase.
As the deadline for the deposit approaches, the committee urges all registered pilgrims to complete the required steps promptly. This will help avoid any last-minute complications and ensure a stress-free experience for those embarking on the Hajj journey.
