Background of the Arrest
The Nigeria Police Force, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, has provided details regarding the arrest and arraignment of Samuel Ojeogwu, commonly known as Sammy West. He is the brother of Nollywood actress Regina Daniels. The police have explained that security operatives received a petition on October 28, which alleged several offenses against Sammy West and three other individuals.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the allegations included criminal conspiracy, trespass, assault, criminal intimidation, theft, and cyber-bullying. Adeh stated that Sammy was invited for questioning but failed to honor the invitation, leading to his arrest in Lagos under a court-issued warrant. He was then taken to Abuja for further investigation.
Legal Proceedings
Sammy West was arraigned on Thursday, November 6, 2025, and has been remanded in prison while awaiting the fulfillment of his bail conditions. The statement from the Command emphasized their commitment to professional policing, due process, and the rule of law. It also detailed the sequence of events following the receipt of the petition.
Upon receiving the petition, several invitations were extended to Mr. Samuel Ojeogwu by the Metro Area Command for questioning, which were not honored. Mr. Ojeogwu was arrested in Lagos on the authority of a duly issued arrest warrant from a competent court and subsequently conveyed to Abuja for further investigation. After the conclusion of the investigations, the suspect was charged to court for offenses including criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, assault, criminal intimidation, and theft. He has been remanded by the court pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions.
Regina Daniels’ Response
Tribune Online previously reported that Regina Daniels claimed her brother had been arrested on her husband’s orders and detained for several days. In a post on her social media page, she expressed her concern and shared updates about her family’s efforts to secure Sammy’s release.
She mentioned that her estranged parents had reunited to support her and work towards Sammy’s release. “Two concluded sworn enemies reuniting with no negative ulterior motive other than their daughter’s happiness. And I dare question God for putting me in this situation?” she wrote.
Regina Daniels further disclosed that her parents are in Abuja working to secure her brother’s release. She added, “Sammy’s detainment is taking way too long but we will get him out even if I have to march there myself and create a storm! Since they want me!”
