Giants teeter on PSL elimination

Key Matches and Relegation Battles in the Final Weekend of the Season

As the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League approaches its final weekend, several teams are fighting for survival, with crucial matches set to determine their fates. The race for relegation is tight, with multiple clubs needing victories to avoid dropping down a division.

Highlanders and Chicken Inn are among the key teams looking for outright wins in their upcoming fixtures. Their clash on the last day of the season will be pivotal in deciding their positions in the league. Similarly, Dynamos and Caps United also have two games left to secure maximum points and ensure their survival.

Scottland, the league debutants, have already claimed the title, leaving other teams scrambling for points. This has intensified the competition, as more than half of the teams are still battling to avoid relegation.

Bosso vs. Manica Diamonds: A Clash of Equals

Bosso, currently sitting in 10th place with 37 points, will host Manica Diamonds at Barbourfields Stadium tomorrow. Both teams have 37 points, making this match a critical one in the standings. Manica Diamonds, who are in 12th place, will face Bikita Minerals in their next game after this encounter.

Meanwhile, the GameCocks, also with 37 points, are just behind Highlanders in the league table. They will travel to Mhondoro to take on Ngezi Platinum Stars, needing a win to keep their hopes alive. After that, Bosso and Chicken Inn will face off in the Bulawayo derby, which could be decisive for both teams’ fates.

Coaching Changes and Struggles

Highlanders have had a turbulent season, with three different coaches overseeing the team. Kelvin Kaindu was replaced by his assistant Try Ncube, who then handed over the reins to Pieter de Jongh. This instability has affected the team’s performance, and they will need a strong finish to avoid relegation.

Dynamos, under Kaindu, have shown signs of improvement. Since taking charge, Kaindu has not lost a single match, helping the Glamour Boys move out of the relegation zone. However, they still sit in 13th place with 37 points, and their upcoming match against Yadah at Ngoni Stadium will be crucial.

Other Teams in the Relegation Fight

DeMbare, who are second from the bottom with 34 points, will host FC Platinum at Rufaro. Meanwhile, Yadah faces a tough challenge against Simba Bhora in their final match of the season.

Caps United, with 39 points in ninth place, are still not safe and will host MWOS at Rufaro Stadium. Their final game of the season will see them face Kwekwe United, who are already relegated.

In other relegation battles, Green Fuel (35 points) will travel to Scottland, while Triangle (34 points) will host Kwekwe United. Both teams will meet again in their final game of the season at the Green Fuel Arena.
