Online Fraud Case Involves Three Arrested Individuals
Kathmandu, Nov. 7 — A group of three individuals has been taken into custody by the police for their alleged involvement in a cybercrime scheme that involved sending fake survey links to victims, leading to unauthorized withdrawals from their bank accounts.
The arrested individuals include Rajan Giri, 40, from Sindhupalchok; Mina Lakandri, 26, from Okhaldhunga; and Aditya Kumar, 26, from Bihar, India. They were apprehended by the Cyber Bureau, which has secured a five-day remand from the Kathmandu District Court to conduct further investigations into the case.
According to SP Deepak Raj Awasthi, the spokesperson for the Cyber Bureau, the accused created deceptive advertisements on Facebook, using the names of various banks to lure users into clicking on malicious survey links. Once victims clicked these links, their bank account details were compromised, allowing the perpetrators to transfer funds to other accounts.
Aditya Kumar was detained at the Chhaya Center in Thamel, where law enforcement officers discovered casino cards and Indian ATM cards. The police believe that Kumar may have used the stolen money for gambling activities in casinos.
