Matiang’i: Upholding Uhuru’s Legacy with Jubilee

Loyalty and Vision: A New Chapter for Jubilee Party

Fred Matiang’i, the presidential candidate of the Jubilee Party, has made a strong statement of loyalty to former President Uhuru Kenyatta. He described Kenyatta as his mentor and pledged to uphold and advance his legacy through the party’s renewed leadership. Matiang’i emphasized that his decade-long service under Kenyatta’s administration significantly shaped his understanding of leadership, unity, and public service.

“I have learned a lot under Uhuru Kenyatta as his Cabinet Secretary for ten years. I will work with leaders to ensure your legacy continues. We will speak to our people and make Jubilee bigger,” Matiang’i stated. His remarks were made during a significant meeting held at Thika Greens in Murang’a county on Friday.

The event was attended by Uhuru Kenyatta, who is the party leader, along with Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni and former Murang’a Senator Kembi Gitura. This gathering marked one of the most significant meetings of Jubilee’s top leadership since the 2022 General Election.

Matiang’i highlighted that his new role as deputy party leader is not about titles but about rebuilding trust with supporters and revitalizing Jubilee’s original vision of inclusive governance. “Jubilee will continue to serve all Kenyans without discrimination or insults. We are here to restore dignity to politics and rebuild a party that unites rather than divides,” he said.

He further noted that the next phase of Jubilee’s journey will focus on unity, discipline, and grassroots empowerment. Matiang’i stressed that the party must remain a symbol of hope and stability in a changing political environment. “We will deliver the next government to make you proud and work with other members of the united opposition to offer Kenyans a credible alternative,” he declared.

Jeremiah Kioni, the Secretary General, praised Matiang’i’s appointment as a strong signal of generational transition and continuity within the party. He mentioned that Jubilee is entering a new era of organization, leadership, and political education aimed at liberating the country from divisive politics. “We are ready to unite the country and work as a team,” Kioni said, noting that Jubilee’s leadership will prioritize internal democracy and strategic partnerships with like-minded Kenyans.

Former Senator Kembi Gitura encouraged members to rally behind Matiang’i and Uhuru, describing the new leadership blend as a combination of experience and renewed energy that can steer the party to resurgence. The Thika meeting is part of Jubilee’s ongoing nationwide reorganization and outreach plan, as the party seeks to reconnect with its grassroots base, particularly in the Mt Kenya region.

Matiang’i’s entry into the party’s top leadership marks an important step in Jubilee’s revival. He has already been endorsed as a presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election. His experience as a seasoned administrator and his close association with Uhuru position him as a bridge between the party’s founding generation and emerging leaders.
