Upcoming Prize Fighting Event in Lagos
Boxers are set to take center stage at the upcoming Prize Fighting event scheduled for Saturday at the Indoor Sports Hall in Surulere, Lagos. The fighters have already begun making bold statements ahead of their bouts, with several promising to deliver decisive victories.
The event will be broadcast live on the Prize Fighting TV website, offering fans an opportunity to watch the action from anywhere. Among the most anticipated matches is the heavyweight clash between Kabiru Towolawi and undefeated Samson Kazeem. This fight has generated a lot of excitement due to the contrasting styles and records of the two competitors.
Towolawi, who has a professional record of 26-15, has made it clear that he intends to dominate his opponent. Kazeem, on the other hand, enters the ring with an impressive 8-0 record and is determined to make his more experienced rival retire.
“I am going to dominate and knock him out. I am training for (Ike) Ibeabuchi as (Abiodun) Afinni disappointed us, now I want to come and avenge my friend. They have brought this buffalo here, but he is big for nothing,” Towolawi said.
Kazeem, however, remains undeterred. He expressed confidence in his ability to force his opponent out of the ring, regardless of Towolawi’s experience.
“I’m going to make you run out of the ring. Everything you’re talking about is history. I am not scared of his record. I am going to make him retire,” Kazeem stated.
The stakes were further raised by Kazeem’s coach, Kehinde Aweda, who offered a financial incentive to Towolawi if he could manage to defeat Kazeem.
“If you (Towolawi) are able to beat him, I will give you 100,000 naira right after the fight,” Aweda said.
Other Exciting Matches on the Card
In addition to the main event, the card features several other high-profile bouts. These include super-lightweight matchups between Sadam Oladipupo and Akintunde Abolade, Temitope Ademulure and Adeogun Awwal, as well as Samuel ‘Apataroro’ Moses against Bartholomew Abuchi.
Moses, known for his aggressive style, has promised a knockout victory in his bout.
“It’s not by mouth, but by training, and so I believe I will knock him out,” Moses said.
Abuchi, however, dismissed these claims, stating, “Everyone knows he doesn’t know what he’s saying, and I am ready for him.”
Support from Nigerian Boxing Authorities
Dr. Rafiu Ladipo, the president of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control, expressed enthusiasm about the event, particularly praising promoter Miyen Akiri for his dedication to promoting Nigerian boxing.
“I am seriously excited about this event, especially because Miyen, who we all know in sports, has now taken special interest in boxing. We at the NBBofC are happy to partner with you,” Ladipo said.
He also highlighted Akiri’s previous efforts in promoting Ike Ibeabuchi’s return to the ring, which has been widely discussed both locally and internationally.
Akiri, in turn, thanked the NBBofC and emphasized the global reach of the event.
“The good thing about prize fighting is that it’s not only fans in Nigeria that’ll be watching. It’ll be watched by people all over the world, and it’s free to watch if you log into the Prize Fighting TV website. We want to showcase the best of Nigerian boxing,” Akiri said.
Remi Aboderin, the Secretary General of the NBBofC, praised the event as being very exciting and commended Akiri for his vision in transforming the landscape of boxing in Nigeria.
Akiri also assured Towolawi that if he wins, he would work to secure him a future fight against Ibeabuchi.
