Moroccan Digital Ministry Reveals Women Lead Staff Majority

Women’s Representation in Morocco’s Digital Transition Ministry

Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform has made significant strides in promoting gender equality within its workforce. According to recent data shared with parliament, women constitute 52 percent of the ministry’s employees and hold 57 percent of management positions. These figures highlight a growing commitment to ensuring that women are well-represented at all levels of the organization.

Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni provided detailed statistics in response to a parliamentary inquiry from lawmaker Driss Sentissi. She noted that women occupy 32 percent of division head roles and 57 percent of service head positions. Additionally, they make up 53 percent of participants in training programs. The minister emphasized that these numbers reflect the ministry’s ongoing efforts to embed gender equality into the public sector and ensure fair representation in decision-making roles.

Institutionalizing Gender Equality

The ministry has been working on a long-term strategy to promote gender equality since 2016, in collaboration with UN Women. This partnership helped establish a framework aimed at ensuring equal access to jobs and career advancement opportunities for women in public administration. The initiative has led to several key developments, including policies that support work-life balance for female employees.

One notable effort is the opening of a nursery in February, developed in partnership with the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development. This facility is designed to assist women in managing their professional and family responsibilities, further encouraging their participation in the workforce.

Focusing on Digital Skills and Career Development

El Fallah Seghrouchni also highlighted the ministry’s focus on developing digital skills among women. Specialized programs have been introduced to target women engineers, aiming to strengthen their technical abilities and contribute to Morocco’s broader digital transformation agenda. These initiatives are part of a larger effort to ensure that women are not only present in the workforce but also equipped with the skills needed to lead and innovate in the digital space.

Current Leadership Roles

According to the latest available data, the ministry includes four women directors, 10 division heads, and 29 service heads. These numbers demonstrate a steady progression toward achieving parity in the civil service. The minister reaffirmed her commitment to enforcing legal and regulatory measures that guarantee equal access to opportunities for all employees, regardless of gender.
