Robert Kasibante Launches Campaign in Uganda’s Eastern Region
Robert Kasibante, the presidential candidate from the National Peasants Party (NPP), recently made a significant impact during his campaign launch in Uganda’s eastern district of Butaleja. On Friday, November 7, he kicked off his campaign trail in the Bukedi sub-region, where he received a warm and enthusiastic reception.
Kasibante, making his debut as a presidential candidate, emphasized his commitment to three key areas: agriculture, fiscal responsibility, and infrastructure development. His vision for Uganda in 2026 is centered around these pillars, aiming to address long-standing challenges in the country.
The campaign began with an afternoon speech in Butaleja town council, followed by a second rally in Busolwe town council. At both events, supporters welcomed Kasibante with joyous dancing and displays of NPP merchandise, including a large dummy pen symbolizing the party’s emblem.
A Focus on Streamlining Government Operations
Kasibante’s core message revolved around improving government efficiency and boosting key sectors. He criticized the current administration for poor planning and wasteful spending, particularly highlighting the excessive number of resident district commissioners (RDCs) and presidential advisors.
“Only two presidential advisers will be needed,” he declared, emphasizing his plan to reduce unnecessary expenditures. “It is poor planning that has crippled this government. We wouldn’t see health facilities lacking medicine or teachers striking over pay if resources were being allocated effectively.”
His remarks resonated with the crowd, who cheered enthusiastically at the prospect of a more streamlined and accountable government.
Addressing Agricultural Challenges
Recognizing the agricultural significance of Butaleja, especially as a major rice-growing hub, Kasibante visited local farmers to understand their challenges firsthand. He met with Nassanali Higenyi, a farmer in Nakwaga cell in Busolwe town council, who expressed concerns about being cheated by middlemen due to poor road connectivity and inadequate agro-processing and storage facilities.
Kasibante urged local farmers to support his campaign, promising improvements in the agricultural value chain. He spoke about the need to establish processing and packaging facilities to enhance productivity and market access.
He also highlighted the importance of investing in road infrastructure and flood control measures, which are critical for the district’s development. “I have listened to the farmers’ cries. We will ensure you are no longer cheated by middlemen. The time has come to benefit from your hard work,” he said.
Support from Local Residents
The proposed improvements by Kasibante appeared to resonate with the local population. Ismail Were, a resident of Busolwe town council, expressed optimism about the candidate’s plans. “This man is saying what we need to hear. We have struggled for years with bad roads and no markets. This could be our chance to finally thrive,” he said.
Voters believe that Kasibante’s focus on infrastructure and agriculture could unlock the district’s economic potential and empower farmers who are currently facing exploitative practices from intermediaries.
Expanding the Campaign
Following the rallies in Butaleja, Kasibante is set to continue his campaign in Butebo and Kibuku districts on Saturday. His goal is to galvanize support across the Bukedi region and outline his broader vision for Uganda.
As he moves forward, Kasibante aims to connect with more voters and present a clear roadmap for the country’s future, focusing on sustainable development and equitable growth.
