President Paudel Returns to Nepal After Attending International Summit

President Ramchandra Paudel has returned to Nepal after attending the ‘Second World Summit for Social Development’ in Doha, Qatar. The summit, which started on Tuesday, concluded on Thursday, and the President left the event to return to his home country.

Upon arriving at Tribhuvan International Airport, President Paudel was received by several high-ranking officials. These included Vice President Ram Sahaya Prasad Yadav, Prime Minister Sushila Karki, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, the Qatari Ambassador to Nepal, and leaders of security agencies. A contingent from the Nepali Army also performed a guard of honour, marking a formal welcome for the President.

Key Highlights of the Summit

The President had traveled to Doha on Monday, invited by Qatar’s Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. He was accompanied by a delegation of Nepali officials and his wife, First Lady Sabita Paudel.

During the summit, President Paudel participated in various key sessions. He addressed the main session of the conference, which was held under the framework of the United Nations General Assembly. His speech focused on social development, emphasizing the importance of addressing global challenges such as poverty, employment, and social inclusion.

In addition to the main session, the President took part in a high-level roundtable that discussed three core pillars of social development: poverty alleviation, productive employment, and decent work for all, and social inclusion. These topics are central to achieving sustainable development globally.

Additional Meetings and Cultural Visit

In addition to his participation in the summit, President Paudel met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during his stay in Qatar. The meeting was a courtesy call, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in addressing global issues.

On Wednesday, the President also visited the Qatar National Museum, where he had the opportunity to learn more about the cultural and historical heritage of Qatar. This visit reflected his interest in understanding the rich traditions and values of the host country.
