Community Development Efforts in Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District
Mr. Daniel Blay, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DANBICOM Foundation, has urged individuals and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to support ongoing community development initiatives in the Twifo-Hemang-Lower-Denkyira District of the Central Region. His call comes as part of a broader effort to address critical infrastructure gaps that continue to hinder growth and development in the area.
Blay highlighted that many communities within the district still lack essential facilities such as school buildings, improved roads, healthcare clinics, and access to clean water. These deficiencies, he noted, significantly impact the quality of life for residents and limit opportunities for economic and social advancement.
To address these challenges, Blay has encouraged NGOs, including those based outside the district, to extend their support. He emphasized the importance of collective action in improving living conditions and fostering sustainable development in the region.
The appeal was made during the commissioning of ten new boreholes funded by the DANBICOM Foundation. These boreholes were sunk for five communities, including Twifo Bakonidi, Nfantifum, Amoza, and the Tafrewoa Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound. The initiative aims to provide reliable access to clean water, which is crucial for health, hygiene, and agricultural activities.
Mrs. Esi Agyeiwaa, a midwife at the Tafrewoa CHPS Compound, praised Mr. Blay for his generosity and dedication to the community. She also called for additional support, explaining that the facility currently operates with only one labor bed and lacks adequate nurse quarters. Despite these limitations, the compound serves approximately five communities, including residents from the neighboring Wassa East District.
Community members expressed their gratitude to the CEO of DANBICOM Foundation, sharing stories of the difficulties they faced before the foundation’s intervention. Many spoke about the challenges of accessing clean water and basic healthcare services, which have now been significantly improved through the foundation’s efforts.
Key Infrastructure Projects
The DANBICOM Foundation has undertaken several key projects to support the district:
- Borehole Installation: Ten new boreholes have been installed across five communities, providing access to clean water.
- Healthcare Support: The Tafrewoa CHPS Compound has received much-needed resources, though more support is still required to meet the growing demand.
- Community Engagement: Local residents have actively participated in discussions about the needs of their communities and the role of external support in addressing them.
Ongoing Challenges and Future Needs
Despite the progress made, there are still significant challenges that need to be addressed. The Tafrewoa CHPS Compound, for instance, continues to face shortages of essential medical equipment and facilities. Additional funding and resources are needed to expand its capacity and ensure that it can serve the growing population effectively.
Community leaders and health workers have emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between local residents, NGOs, and other stakeholders. They believe that sustained investment in infrastructure and healthcare will be critical to achieving long-term development goals.
As the DANBICOM Foundation continues its work in the district, the focus remains on empowering communities and creating lasting change. Through partnerships and collective efforts, the hope is to build a future where all residents have access to the basic necessities that contribute to a healthy and prosperous life.
