A Call for Unity and Respect
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued a strong warning to members of the Jubilee Party, urging them to avoid political intolerance and online attacks against those they consider opponents. His message emphasizes the importance of maintaining respect in a democratic society, where differing opinions should be acknowledged without resorting to hostility.
During an address to the party’s grassroots leaders on Friday, November 11, Uhuru highlighted the significance of tolerance towards political adversaries. He stressed that democracy is built on the foundation of allowing everyone to express their views, provided it is done without falling into extremism.
As the leader of the Jubilee Party, Uhuru made it clear that he will not tolerate any member who uses party loyalty as a justification for spreading hate or insults. He specifically called out attacks directed at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, condemning such behavior as unacceptable.
Uhuru tasked the party’s Secretary General, Jeremiah Kioni, with overseeing the conduct of members. He emphasized that the party must uphold its values and ensure that no one exploits their position within the party to engage in harmful rhetoric.
“Mr. Secretary General, I must say, when I read online that someone claims to defend Jubilee while insulting Gachagua and others, I find it unacceptable. We are not a party that endorses insults. Every leader deserves respect; let them speak, and when your turn comes, speak too. The public will decide. I don’t want these petty fights, it’s nonsense. Leaders have the right to align with the party of their choice. In fact, I won’t hesitate to expel anyone who engages in such behaviour,” he said.
