IFP Gauteng Celebrates Court Ruling on Informal Trading Stalls Verification

Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Welcomes Court Ruling on Informal Traders

The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in Gauteng has expressed its approval of a recent ruling by the Gauteng High Court, which mandates the City of Johannesburg to accelerate the verification process for informal traders and allocate stalls in designated trading areas. This decision is seen as a significant step towards bringing order and fairness to the informal trading sector.

The IFP believes that this judgment will help reduce the harassment, intimidation, and confiscation of goods by municipal officials and law enforcement. With proper verification and compliance with municipal regulations, all traders will be able to operate within a structured framework. This move aims to ensure that the rights of legitimate traders are protected while also addressing the challenges posed by unregulated activities.

While the IFP supports fair trade and inclusive economic participation, it remains firm in its stance against unfair competition. The party urges all South African informal traders to register for trading permits, enabling them to reclaim economic spaces that have been taken over by both illegal and legal foreign nationals operating outside the law.

Addressing Illegal Migration and Its Impact

In line with the IFP’s manifesto on illegal migration, the party maintains that undocumented migrants are lawbreakers who pose a threat to the safety and security of the state. They also place undue pressure on South African resources. The IFP reiterates its call for a temporary ban on businesses found to be employing illegal immigrants, as fines alone have not proven to be an effective deterrent.

It is evident that Johannesburg’s Central Business District (CBD) has descended into disorder due to the presence of illegal traders who disregard city bylaws. What was once envisioned as a “World Class African City” has deteriorated into a state of chaos and neglect.

During the IFP’s 50th Anniversary Celebration at Jabulani Amphitheatre last month, IFP President Hon. Velenkosini Hlabisa reaffirmed the party’s position, calling for the immediate deportation of undocumented foreign nationals.

“As the IFP, we remain true to the issue of illegal migration. We will remain true to the commitment we made to you. Even now, in the GNU, the IFP is against undocumented immigrants from foreign countries who lack the scarce skills that we need and must return to their countries,” he said.

President Hlabisa further emphasized that while the IFP supports migration for individuals possessing scarce and essential skills, the government must act decisively to deport those residing in the country illegally.

Call for Transparent and Efficient Verification Process

Accordingly, the IFP in Gauteng calls on the City of Johannesburg to ensure a transparent, fair, and efficient verification process and to adhere strictly to proper procedures when issuing trading permits.

This initiative is expected to bring about positive changes in the informal trading sector, promoting economic growth and stability. It also aligns with the broader goals of the IFP to create a safer and more orderly environment for all citizens.
