Inflation drops 0.59% this week

Weekly Inflation Trends in Pakistan

The latest data on inflation, measured by the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), reveals a slight decline for the week ending November 6, 2025. According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the SPI decreased by 0.59 percent for the combined consumption group.

Overview of the SPI Data

The SPI for the week under review was recorded at 333.55 points, down from 335.53 points in the previous week. On an annual basis, the SPI showed an increase of 4.18 percent. The SPI, which uses the base year 2015-16=100, covers 17 urban centers and 51 essential items across all expenditure groups.

For the lowest consumption group, which includes individuals with income up to Rs17,732, the SPI fell by 1.04 percent, dropping to 327.73 points from 331.18 points in the prior week. Similarly, other consumption groups also experienced declines:

  • Rs17,733-22,888: 0.93 percent decrease
  • Rs22,889-29,517: 0.74 percent decrease
  • Rs29,518-44,175: 0.66 percent decrease
  • Above Rs44,175: 0.44 percent decrease

During the week, out of the 51 essential items tracked, 18 (35.29 percent) saw price increases, 12 (23.53 percent) experienced decreases, and 21 (41.18 percent) remained unchanged.

Key Commodities with Price Increases

Several essential commodities saw notable price hikes during the week:

  • Eggs: 2.40 percent
  • Bananas: 2.32 percent
  • Firewood: 1.61 percent
  • Diesel: 1.12 percent
  • Beef: 0.93 percent
  • Tea prepared: 0.92 percent
  • Petrol: 0.91 percent
  • Bread: 0.55 percent
  • Wheat flour: 0.34 percent
  • Powdered milk: 0.31 percent
  • Cooking oil 5-litre tin: 0.21 percent

Commodities with Price Decreases

On the flip side, some items saw significant price drops:

  • Tomatoes: 37.93 percent
  • Onions: 4.88 percent
  • Garlic: 3.23 percent
  • Pulse gram: 1.58 percent
  • Chicken: 0.68 percent
  • Sugar: 0.64 percent
  • Gur: 0.60 percent
  • Pulse masoor: 0.55 percent
  • LPG: 0.15 percent

Year-on-Year Changes

Looking at the annual trend, several key items showed substantial price increases:

  • Ladies sandal: 55.62 percent
  • Sugar: 43.67 percent
  • Gas charges for Q1: 29.85 percent
  • Wheat flour: 19.50 percent
  • Gur: 18.88 percent
  • Firewood: 14.25 percent
  • Beef: 14.09 percent
  • Vegetable ghee 2.5-kg: 11.53 percent
  • Onions: 11.22 percent
  • Vegetable ghee 1-kg: 9.79 percent
  • Diesel: 9.29 percent

Conversely, some items saw annual price declines:

  • Garlic: 33.54 percent
  • Pulse gram: 29.82 percent
  • Electricity charges for Q1: 26.26 percent
  • Potatoes: 22.32 percent
  • Tomatoes: 19.69 percent
  • Tea: 17.79 percent
  • Pulse mash: 15.52 percent
  • Chicken: 15.16 percent
  • LPG: 9.14 percent
  • Pulse masoor: 4.95 percent
