Journalists Injured in Field Operations Highlight Safety Concerns
A recent incident involving journalists covering illegal mining activities has raised serious concerns about the safety of media professionals working in high-risk environments. The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has expressed deep concern over the accident, which occurred during a joint operation with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and other security officials.
The GJA’s regional chairman, Mr. Kofi Adu Domfe, issued a statement on behalf of the association, expressing full solidarity with the affected journalists. “The Association stood in full solidarity with our affected colleagues in this difficult moment,” the statement read. “Our thoughts and prayers are with them, their families, and their media organisations.”
The accident took place in the Atwima Mponua district, where a vehicle carrying journalists, EPA officials, and security personnel was involved in a fatal crash near Nyinahin. The journalists sustained various injuries, with some in critical condition being rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for treatment. Others remain hospitalized at a health facility in Afari, located in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality.
