Lidl Urgently Recalls Popular Nut Product Over Glass Contamination Risk

Lidl Issues Urgent Recall of Cashews Due to Glass Contamination

Lidl, a well-known budget retailer in the UK, has issued an urgent recall of its Simply Roasted and Salted Cashews. The decision comes after concerns were raised about potential contamination with glass shards. This alarming issue has prompted food safety authorities to issue a ‘do not eat’ warning for a specific batch of the product.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) confirmed the recall, stating that the product is considered ‘unsafe to eat’ due to the presence of foreign bodies, which could pose a choking hazard. The affected product is 125g of roasted cashews with a best before date of 28 June 2026. Customers who have purchased this batch are advised not to consume the nuts and to return them to their nearest Lidl store for a full refund.

Lidl has also released a statement addressing the situation, expressing apologies for any inconvenience caused and thanking customers for their cooperation. The company has informed its customers about the steps they should take if they have bought the affected product.

Despite the urgency of the recall, Lidl has not provided details on how the glass shards entered the product. The recall is limited to the specific batch mentioned, and no other products from Lidl GB are currently known to be affected. Customers seeking further information are encouraged to contact Lidl’s Customer Care team via phone at 0203 966 5566 or by email at customer.care@lidl.co.uk.

The FSA regularly issues product recalls when there is a risk to consumer safety. In some cases, these recalls are accompanied by Food Alerts for Action, which prompt local authorities to intervene. This is not the first time Lidl has faced such a situation. Earlier this month, the supermarket was forced to recall three batches of stroopwaffels due to similar concerns, with the FSA deeming the product ‘unsafe to eat’ because of potential contamination with metal fragments.

The affected stroopwaffel batches include XXL 560g packs with best before dates of 21 November, 2 December, and 3 December 2025. This highlights the ongoing challenges that retailers face in ensuring the safety of their products.

Other recent recalls involving Lidl include the Alpenfest Salted Mini Pretzels, where the company warned of a potential ‘burning sensation’ risk. Additionally, a recall of popular chicken steaks exposed hidden allergen risks, prompting further scrutiny of product safety measures.

Consumers are urged to remain vigilant and check the details of any products they purchase. Staying informed about recalls and following the guidelines provided by retailers and regulatory agencies can help prevent potential health risks. As Lidl continues to address these issues, the importance of transparency and swift action in food safety becomes increasingly evident.
