FRSC Special Marshals Demand Stronger Protection as Attacks Rise

Enhanced Security Measures for Special Marshals in Plateau State

The Plateau State Sector of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Marshals has called for improved security measures to ensure the safety of its personnel and the effective execution of their duties. This initiative comes as part of a broader effort to address the challenges faced by road safety officers in the state.

During the 2025 Special Marshals Sectoral Workshop, held at the command’s headquarters in Jos, the state capital, the State Coordinator of FRSC Special Marshals, SM Abayomi Adegbami, emphasized the need for stronger protective measures. He highlighted the dangers that personnel encounter while carrying out their responsibilities, which often result in injuries and even fatalities.

“The chosen theme — Enhancing Security and Safety Strategies for Special Marshals — is both timely and relevant. It reflects our collective determination to strengthen preventive measures and defensive strategies against road hazards during patrol operations in order to achieve safer roads and save lives,” Adegbami stated.

Collaboration and Responsibility

Sector Commander, Olajide Mogaji, echoed Adegbami’s sentiments, emphasizing the crucial role that special marshals play in maintaining road safety and security. He reiterated the commitment of the sector to work closely with the Special Marshals to achieve the common goal of ensuring safe roads for all.

“ It is our responsibility to ensure road safety in our state and country. We will continue to work with the Special Marshals to achieve this objective in the interest of everyone,” Mogaji said.

Zonal Commanding Officer, Joseph Udoabba, stressed the importance of collaboration between security agencies and special marshals to tackle emerging security challenges. He pointed out that a unified approach is essential in addressing the growing threats to road safety.

Similarly, Assistant Corps Marshal Godwin Alphonsus, who represented the Deputy Corps Marshal, Special Duties and External Relations, FRSC Headquarters, Pauline Olaye, emphasized the need for special marshals to be equipped with the necessary skills and resources to effectively carry out their duties.

Support from Local Leadership

Chairman of the Plateau State Council of Chiefs and Emirs, Da Jacob Gyang Buba, commended the FRSC for its efforts in promoting road safety and security in the state. He noted that the FRSC had been working to enhance its operations, including adopting digital technology to improve traffic management and enforcement.

The Gbong Gwom Jos expressed support for the FRSC’s proposal to acquire arms for traffic enforcement, saying it would enhance security and safety on Nigerian roads.

“We believe there is the need for enhanced security measures to tackle the rising cases of insecurity on Nigerian roads. The proposal is timely, considering the increasing threats to road safety and the need to protect FRSC personnel as they carry out their duties. I therefore urge the FRSC to continue to work with other security agencies to ensure the safety of Nigerians and promote road safety,” he said.
