Pakistan’s Military Leader Engages with Brunei Darussalam Leadership

General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) of Pakistan, recently visited Brunei Darussalam as part of an official trip. During his visit, he had a private audience with Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah Ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.

The CJCSC also engaged in several key meetings with high-ranking officials from Brunei. These included discussions with Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Lailaraja, Major General (Retired) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, who serves as both the Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and the Minister of Defence-II. Additionally, General Mirza met with Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Muhammad Haszaimi bin Bol Hassan, the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.

Exploring Military Cooperation and Regional Security

During the visit, the CJCSC also toured the KDB DARULAMAN at the Muara Naval Base and the Defence Academy of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. At the academy, he delivered a lecture on “Pakistan’s contributions to regional peace and stability.” The talk was attended by students of the Command and Staff course, including officers from 19 different countries. This interaction provided an opportunity for dialogue on shared security challenges and mutual interests.

Both sides exchanged views on the evolving global and regional security landscape. The CJCSC emphasized the strong and friendly relations between Pakistan and Brunei Darussalam. He expressed a firm commitment to further enhancing military-to-military ties and defense cooperation between the two nations.

The Sultan and the civil-military leadership of Brunei Darussalam acknowledged the high professional standards of the Pakistan Armed Forces. They recognized the achievements and sacrifices made by Pakistani forces in their efforts against terrorism.

A Symbol of Respect and Friendship

Upon arriving at the Headquarters of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, a well-drilled military contingent presented the CJCSC with a “Guard of Honour,” a gesture of respect and friendship during his visit.

This visit marks an important step in strengthening bilateral relations between Pakistan and Brunei Darussalam. It highlights the shared commitment of both nations to maintaining peace, security, and stability in the region.
