A Lighthearted Request and a Serious Promise
During a visit to Opoda Farm in Siaya County, Peter Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East, made a humorous yet heartfelt appeal to Mama Ida Odinga, the wife of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. Salasya jokingly asked Mama Ida to help him find a life partner who is as “good and beautiful” as she is.
“I want you to be my matchmaker. I need a woman like you,” he said, adding, “There are a lot of things I want to share, and I want to do it with you alone because there are many matters.”
Mama Ida, known for her warm and approachable nature, responded with a promise to assist Salasya in his quest. She assured him that she would personally help him find a suitable partner. Her response was met with enthusiasm from the “Daughters of Raila,” a group of women from Suba West who had gathered at the event to honor the legacy of the late Raila Odinga.
The Daughters of Raila and Their Support
The “Daughters of Raila” were visibly excited about Mama Ida’s pledge. They welcomed her commitment with cheers and applause, showing their support for both the MP and the former First Lady. Mama Ida emphasized that she would take the matter seriously and ensure that Salasya finds a suitable match among the group.
Her involvement in the process highlights the close-knit community ties within the region and the role of influential figures in supporting local leaders. The interaction also underscores the informal yet meaningful connections that exist between political figures and their supporters.
Salasya’s Previous Statements on Marriage
Salasya has not been shy about expressing his desire to marry. In 2022, he shared his criteria for a potential spouse during an interview. He mentioned that he was looking for a God-fearing woman who would support him in his political endeavors.
“I am just looking for a very prayerful woman, a very young girl, a focused girl, a supportive girl, presentable and must be able to speak to the people in the countryside. Are you willing to join me we go look for votes?” he said at the time.
He also clarified that he was not in a hurry to make a decision. “I’m an exposed man. Kwani naeza pelekwa pelekwa hivi. I am an MP, and you know I have convinced people that I am a very intelligent person. I am strong,” he added.
A Longstanding Desire to Marry
Over the years, Salasya has consistently expressed his intention to get married. His public statements reflect a desire for a partner who shares his values and can stand by him in both personal and professional life. This latest request for Mama Ida’s help marks another step in his journey toward finding the right life partner.
The interaction between Salasya and Mama Ida not only highlights the personal side of political figures but also demonstrates how relationships and community support play a vital role in public life. As Salasya continues his search, the involvement of Mama Ida and the “Daughters of Raila” adds a unique and supportive dimension to his efforts.
