Photos: Kano Residents Condemn Trump Threat

A group of members from an Islamic movement in Kano State organized a demonstration on Saturday to express their disapproval of recent comments made by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Trump had accused Nigeria of committing genocide against Christians and warned of potential military action if the situation was not resolved.

The protesters carried signs with messages such as “We condemn Trump’s threat to attack Nigeria,” “There is Christian genocide in Nigeria,” and “America wants to control our resources.” These statements reflected the concerns and frustrations of the local community regarding the allegations made by the former U.S. leader.

The event was shared online by Hon. Nuhu Sada, a candidate from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the Kaduna State House of Assembly, representing the Zaria Kewaye Constituency in the 2025 bye-election. On X (formerly Twitter), he posted images of the protest, captioning them with a question: “Thousands of people in Kano State have come out in a protest to strongly condemn the remarks made by U.S President Donald Trump about attacking Nigeria. What is your opinion?”

Trump had previously labeled Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” due to alleged persecution of Christians. He also issued a warning that the United States might intervene militarily if the Nigerian government did not take steps to address the violence against religious minorities.

This protest in Kano came after a similar demonstration in Lagos, where participants held signs reading “Nigerians united against U.S. threat of military invasion” and chanted slogans like “Leave us alone oh, leave us alone. America, leave us alone.”

The Federal Government of Nigeria has rejected these allegations as false. During a press briefing in Abuja, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated that the claims were misleading and did not accurately reflect the security and religious conditions in the country.
