LG Twins Extend Manager Yeom Kyung-yeop’s Contract in Record 3 Billion Won Deal

A New Era for LG Twins with Manager Yeom Kyung-yeop

LG Twins, a prominent professional baseball team in South Korea, has made a significant move by renewing the contract of Manager Yeom Kyung-yeop. This decision comes after he led the team to two consecutive unified championships, marking a historic moment for the franchise. The renewal is also notable for being the highest compensation package ever offered to a manager in the KBO League.

The LG club officially announced on the 9th that they have extended Yeom’s contract for three years. The deal includes a signing bonus of 700 million Korean won, an annual salary of 2.1 billion Korean won, and an additional option of 200 million Korean won. This total of 3 billion Korean won sets a new record for the highest contract in KBO League history, establishing Yeom as the pioneer of the “3 billion Korean won manager era.”

Since becoming the 14th manager of LG in November 2022, Yeom has quickly risen to the status of a legendary coach. His leadership was instrumental in guiding the team to the pinnacle of success. In the 2023 season, he managed to overcome a long-standing frustration by securing a unified championship, which included both the regular season and the Korean Series. This achievement ended a 29-year drought for the team. Then, in the 2025 season, Yeom once again led the team to victory, solidifying his place in history as the “manager with two unified championships.”

This contract renewal surpasses the previous record set by former Doosan Manager Kim Tae-hyung in 2020, who had a three-year deal worth 2.8 billion Korean won. Yeom’s new contract not only breaks this record but also sets a new benchmark for the highest-paid manager in KBO history. Additionally, Yeom becomes the third manager in LG’s history to secure a contract renewal, following the late former manager Lee Gwang-hwan (1995) and former manager Cheon Bo-seong (1999). This is also the first time since the 2000s that LG has renewed a contract with a manager, highlighting the significance of this decision.

Through the club, Yeom expressed his gratitude for the support he has received. He stated, “I am grateful to the owner, acting owner, president, and general manager for the historic treatment. Thanks to the unwavering support from our fans, I believe I have been given another opportunity to lead LG.” He added, “I will not be satisfied with two unified championships and will strive to build a team capable of continuously challenging for the title.”

Yeom’s renewed contract signifies more than just financial investment; it represents a commitment to excellence and a vision for the future of the LG Twins. With his proven track record and ambitious goals, the team is well-positioned to continue its legacy of success in the KBO League. The coming seasons are expected to bring even more excitement and achievements under Yeom’s leadership.
