Sargeant Tests with Bahrain WEC’s Proton Ford Rookie Team

Logan Sargeant Joins WEC Rookie Test in Bahrain

Logan Sargeant, a former Formula 1 driver with Williams, has been added as a late entry to the World Endurance Championship (WEC) rookie test scheduled for Sunday in Bahrain. The American driver will take the wheel of a Proton Competition Ford Mustang GT3 at the Bahrain International Circuit on 9 November. This information was revealed through the updated entry list published on Saturday.

Sargeant will share driving duties in the #77 Mustang with Giorgio Roda, a long-time Proton Competition racer. Additionally, Dennis Olsen, a regular WEC driver and factory Ford representative, will also participate in the event.

This development comes after Sargeant’s return to racing in September, where he competed for PR1 Mathiasen in the final two rounds of the IMSA SportsCar Championship. Initially, he was set to compete in the full 2025 European Le Mans Series as part of a Genesis-backed campaign with IDEC Sport. This move was considered a preparatory step for a potential transition into the Hypercar category with Hyundai.

However, on the eve of the season, Sargeant decided to step down from his LMP2 seat to focus on other interests. He made a return to racing at the IMSA Indianapolis event two months ago.

At the Petit Le Mans, the final round of the season in October, Sargeant finished fifth in class. He shared the PR1 Mathiasen ORECA 07 with Naveen Rao and Benjamin Pedersen. The 24-year-old, who earned a single point during his F1 career, has not yet announced his plans for 2026 but is expected to continue competing in the ELMS.

The annual Bahrain rookie test is structured over five hours of on-track action, divided into two sessions: one lasting two hours and another three hours. This event provides an opportunity for emerging drivers to gain experience in a competitive environment.

The test serves as a crucial platform for young talent to showcase their skills and potentially secure future opportunities in endurance racing. With Sargeant’s participation, the event gains additional attention, highlighting the growing interest in transitioning drivers from different motorsport disciplines.

As the racing community looks forward to the test, there is anticipation about how Sargeant will perform in the GT3 category. His experience in Formula 1 and recent IMSA appearances provide a solid foundation for this new challenge.
