Educational Support for Military Schoolchildren
A recent initiative by the Victor Tutulu-Briggs Foundation has brought a wave of support to schoolchildren in Port-Harcourt Barracks, located within the Headquarters of the 6 Division Nigerian Army. The foundation distributed educational materials to students from several military-managed schools, highlighting a commitment to improving access to quality education.
The beneficiaries included pupils and students from NAOWA Nursery and Primary School; NAOWA College Secondary School; Command Nursery and Primary School; and Army Day Secondary School. This effort was observed by THISDAY at the event on Tuesday, where over 100 children received school bags filled with books and other essential learning materials.
A Mission of Encouragement and Support
The founder of the Victor Tutulu-Briggs Foundation, Victor Tulutu-Briggs, emphasized the importance of this gesture. He stated that the initiative aimed to encourage students to be more dedicated in their studies and to support parents and teachers in providing necessary learning resources.
“Appreciating God for using me to reach the children, I said, ‘we came here to give back to the society by making our children proud. We came with materials, bags and other school writing materials to give to our children. What we have given to them is just a tool to encourage them and also encourage their teachers and parents, that we are complementing what they are doing so that our children can do well and make us proud, the Rivers State, the military proud and Nigeria at large.'”
Recognition from Military Leadership
The General Officer Commanding the 6 Division Nigerian Army, Major General Emmanual Emekah, commended the foundation for its efforts. He urged other organizations to follow the example set by Tulutu-Briggs in his philanthropic endeavors for humanity.
Emekah, who was represented by Brigadier General Efiong Nse, Commander 106 Division Equipment Support, said: “There are other children in the society that need this kind of assistance. It is a great contribution to the development of our children.”
Appreciation from the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association
Mrs. Mustaphar Bilikis, the Coordinator of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), who represented the NAOWA Chairperson, Manfon Emekah, expressed gratitude for the donation of educational materials to children in military-managed schools.
“We are so glad; we really appreciate this kind gesture from the Victor Tulutu-Briggs Foundation. The spirit of giving we learned in the hall, shows that it is in caring that we give and not just because we have what to give.”
Impact and Future Prospects
This initiative not only provides immediate relief in terms of educational resources but also sets a precedent for future collaborations between community-based organizations and military institutions. The distribution of school supplies is a tangible step toward ensuring that children from all backgrounds have the tools they need to succeed academically.
As the Victor Tutulu-Briggs Foundation continues its mission, it serves as an inspiration for others to engage in similar acts of kindness and support. The focus on education remains a critical component in shaping the future of young minds, especially in communities where resources may be limited.
