A Deceptive Encounter: Man Arrested for Stealing Motorbike in Kadjebi

A shocking incident unfolded in Kadjebi, Oti Region, when a man impersonating a military officer was arrested for allegedly stealing a motorbike from an Okada rider. The suspect, identified only as Roy, was apprehended at Ve-Golokuati after the theft occurred on Monday, November 3.

Mr. Manasseh Tomey, a 24-year-old Okada rider, recounted the events to the Ghana News Agency (GNA). He explained that the suspect approached him while dressed in military mufti and asked to be taken to a place where he could buy waakye. Mr. Tomey obliged, taking the man to Kadjebi Zongo for the purchase.

Later, the suspect requested to be taken to Wobube Guest House near the Kadjebi Cocoa Market to lodge. During this time, the suspect also asked for Mr. Tomey’s phone number, which he provided. Around 1600 hours, the suspect called Mr. Tomey to request drinking water and later asked to use his motorbike to deliver an item at the Okanta Police barrier.

Trusting the suspect, Mr. Tomey handed over his motorbike. However, multiple attempts to reach the suspect via phone were unsuccessful. Concerned, Mr. Tomey went to the Okanta Police barrier, where officers informed him that no one matching the suspect’s description had passed through.

He then alerted another police post, and officers relayed information to barriers along the route. According to Mr. Tomey, at about 2100 hours, he received a call from the Ve-Golokuati Police barrier indicating that a man matching the suspect’s description had been apprehended. Upon arrival, the police confirmed that the man was the same individual who had stolen his motorbike.

Inspector Emmanuel Agbeworley, Station Officer in charge of the Kadjebi Police Station, confirmed the arrest to the GNA. He stated that the suspect was transferred to the Kadjebi Police Station and subsequently arraigned before court on Wednesday, November 5.
