Court sends 55 illegal immigrants to detention in Kuntunse case

Accra Court Remands 55 Illegal Immigrants in Custody

An Accra Circuit Court has ordered the detention of 55 individuals who were arrested for allegedly entering Ghana illegally. The suspects, part of a larger group of over 100 foreign nationals, were apprehended by law enforcement based on intelligence gathered on October 7, 2025.

The accused individuals are reported to have entered the country through unauthorized routes and failed to secure the necessary permits for their stay and employment. During their interrogation, they denied entering Ghana through unapproved channels and refused to provide their true identities. As a result, they were taken to the CID headquarters for further questioning.

Details of the Arrest and Investigation

According to the prosecution, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Haligah, the suspects were found in a house located in Kuntunse-Satellite, a suburb of Accra. The police acted on intelligence that indicated the presence of a group of foreign nationals in the area. The investigation revealed that the accused individuals, hailing from neighboring francophone countries, had entered Ghana through unauthorized points between February and September 2025.

They did not report to the nearest immigration office to present their travel documents or complete the required forms. Further inquiries confirmed that none of the accused had legal documentation allowing them to reside or work in Ghana.
